Requiem for the Indifferent album for sale Product Description

Requiem for the Indifferent album for sale by Epica was released Mar 20, 2012 on the Nuclear Blast (USA) label. Requiem for the Indifferent, the fifth outing from the Dutch progressive metal outfit, is a typically elaborate and ambitious affair, incorporating copious amounts of choral work and classical arrangements into the band's neatly established blend of goth, progressive, power, and symphonic metal. Like fellow neo-classical rockers Leaves' Eyes and Lacuna Coil, Epica sport a frontwoman with an impressive set of pipes, and mezzo-soprano Simone Simons' operatic vocals ride front and center on standout cuts like "Delirium" and "Storm the Sorrow," while lengthy narratives like the title cut and "Serenade of Self-Destruction" dutifully showcase the band's technical mastery of the genre. Requiem for the Indifferent CD music contains a single disc with 14 songs.   ...See Full Description

Rock Stars
At 27 Simon Simons puts it all together and drops a masterful gem of an album. I've always known she has had the talent, it just never came off on a full album. The band has had some good songs in past (Chasing The Dragon) but never a full album like this one. Every song is very creative and different, fun. They now sound like a rock band instead of just throwing down first thing that comes to mind. The other band members play great throughout this album. I would get rid of the demon growls as it takes away from Simone's beautiful voice. It reminds me of beauty and the beast. My favorite songs are Storm the Sorrow, & Internal Warfare. On the Title track they do lots of transitional guitar sequences which is cool. Lots of unexpected twists in this album. I'd like to see Simone Simons & Opeth get together. The song Delirium is where Simone really shows off her voice in this catchy Ballad. I now put Epica up in the top 3 of Female Death Metal bands with Within Temptation & Evanescence.

Dump the growls.
If you read the Product Description, and the earlier reviewer's comments, you get a pretty good summary of this album. Great vocals from Simone, equal, dare I say, to Tarja (formerly of Nightwish), huge orchestrals, passable lyrics and a drummer who has atomic pistons instead of arms and uses drum sticks like sledgehammers. Tell me why, however, a band a classy as Epica needs to resort to the ridiculous goth growls which appear in just about every track? I may have lost the plot but to me they are old, tired, and totally unnecessary, much like the one note warbling employed by Mariah Carey some years ago. I would have given this album a four star rating, but because of the growls I really would prefer two and a half.
