| Not getting the hype When I first read about this group, I was excited because I liked the sound of a southern blues band with a female lead singer. So I ordered the debut full-length CD and am quite disappointed in it. The band seems very subdued to me, as if they were holding back, and the cuts all basically sound alike, and as for the lead singer's vocals, I found the lyrics to be most unintelligible. For those of you who really ARE finding this CD enjoyable, then I would strongly encourage you to go one state further west and pick up any of the several CDs that have been released by Mississippi Heat. Now THAT is a tight band with a sista that can SANG. I would even rate Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings above Alabama Shakes and I have always thought they were over-hyped as well. | Could be Excellent~! Alabama Shakes is an excellent group-alot of feeling in her singing! They got Rock-n-Roll-Blues-Soul all mixed in one! They get it on! Only problem is the recording of the CD itself is the worst I've ever heard! Why??? I dont know-no clue as to why it even made production? By conner5561 (Olean, NY) |
