The Great Destroyer finds the band rocking as hard as they did on their last CD release, 2007's Wired for Sound (EP). But recording and mixing over the course of two years at Milwaukee's HOWL Street Studios, the band has also layered piano, trumpet, mandolin, bowed cymbals, sleigh bells, glockenspiel, acoustic guitar (and studio magic), to make their most mature-sounding album. Already known for their driving rock sound, The Great Destroyer finds Certain Stars hitting their stride on songs such as "Cake and Eat It Too Girls", "Right On", and "Haunt Your House". But songs such as "Of Metal", and the beer-soaked country anthem "Dirty Girl", also find the band hitting a groove at down tempos.
