Dark Roots of Earth album Product Description

Dark Roots of Earth album by Testament was released Aug 14, 2012 on the EMI Latin label. Forget Metallica, forget Megadeth, Anthrax, and even Slayer! The most formidable on-stage thrash metal powerhouse of 2011 was arguably the (mostly) reconstituted classic lineup of Testament: singer Chuck Billy, guitarists Alex Skolnick, and Eric Peterson, plus returning bass badass Greg Christian and occasional drummer Gene Hoglan, who probably tops most predecessors on the stool, most would agree. This fearsome ensemble spent several months tearing up concert halls worldwide, consistently putting the "mosh" back in the "pit," before invading Oakland, California's Driftwood Studios to record their tenth album Dark Roots of Earth, which, though not quite as timeless as Testament's late-'80s triumphs, sure comes as close as anything they've done over the past 20 years. Savagely lucid thrashers like "Rise Up," "True American Hatred," and "Last Stand for Independence" highlight everything that made Testament special from day one and their failure to achieve stardom so perplexing: the homegrown Bay Area violence rivaled only by Exodus and a versatile musicality on par with Metallica. Dark Roots of Earth CD music is a 2-disc set with 12 songs.   ...See Full Description

Testament rises up!
This Bay area thrash dynamo has done it again. Not a single filler on this album. With the departure of their drummer, Gene Hoglan fills in flawlessly if not better.Hope he stays on for the long haul. Alex and Eric tear it up on the solo's and Chuck's changing vocal style fits the bill. Look forward to seeing them on tour in the states in 2013.This style of music one would think after 30 years they would hang it up. Not when you're putting out top notch well produced product like dark roots of earth. Keep it coming!

Classic Albums of the Future!
There have been lots of thrash bands in the planet, but these guys are just couldn't quit playing the BEST THRASH out of it, there are truly the TESTAMENT of thrash metal! Eric & Alex guitar riffs are just got better and better, special skills no one could follow, the dynamic dual! not forgetting the other companionship of Greg, Gene & EVIL vocalist Chuck Billy! LEGENDS!

Return of the legions of death.
Testament have been on and off with several incarnations since their seminal debut "The Legacy". I started with them awkwardly with "Low" (still my favorite and best album IMO), and subsequently got back and forth with the catalog. The reunion of the original line-up (minus the drummer) for "The Formation Of Damnation" left me upset as Chuck's vocals were too gruff and harsh for my taste and the composition highly raw more for a debut than for a seasoned band. When the single of the new album came out I felt the same, but still ordered it along a haul of other CDs. Boy am I was wrong! The new album is not only solid as a chunk of steel, is fast, mean energetic, thrash as thrash can be true to the spirit. The guitar, bass and drums are finely delivered by the band and vocals are balanced between a fierce vice and the necessary amount of grunt making it bearable. 'Rise Up','Native Blood', 'Dark Roots Of Earth', 'Throne Of Thorns' the standing tunes. The cover of 'Powerslave' holds a great chorus and 'Dragon Attack' redefined the song in metal terms. Must be for Testament and thrash fans, and highly recommended for metal fans in general.

Thrash lives thru this!
I should start by saying that "Formation Of Damnation" is to me one of the best thrash albums ever recorded. Absolutely incredible, I didn't think anyone, including Testament, could do that again. And if you can only have one then get that one. But this new album proves that thrash can live and grow, that Testament can carry the torch. It is very good and some of the songs are right there with the best they have ever done. This one is going to be played a lot in my world. It should be part of yours too!

This is a great CD if you like good vocals kick .ss guitar riffs etc. Even the cover tunes of Scorpions & Iron Maiden are good. If you get a chance to see Testament in concert go see them they sound just like they do on CD!!
