Jeff Pickering is an experienced musician and songwriter from South Central Kansas. On his latest release, Retrospect, Jeff handles the lead and harmony vocals as well as pedal steel guitar, acoustic guitar and banjo. Jeff has shared the stage and performed with many luminaries of traditional and modern country music. His 30 plus years of experience is displayed throughout this release both in the writing and the playing. Jeff and the musicians he has surrounded himself with are skilled and at times brilliant.
Jeff Pickering's Retrospect is very akin to a more independent country and Americana movement that started in the mid 1990's until it was co-opted and eventually completely diluted by major labels and corporate country radio. Artists like Charlie Robison, Jack Ingram, and Pat Green champion a beer soaked, honky-tonk, non-Nashville type of country music while the mainstream was still fascinated with giant hats and watered down formulas.
