Delta Time album by Ry Cooder / Terry Evans / Hans Theessink was released Sep 18, 2012 on the Blue Groove label. The follow-up to the European-American duo's 2008 release Visions is a similarly styled, stripped-down set of acoustic blues, gospel, and soul covers, with some Theessink originals. Delta Time songs Evans' old employer Ry Cooder swings by this time to contribute his distinctive guitar to three tracks. Delta Time album Since Theessink's sound has typically shared a comparable sense of the organic spaciousness that characterizes much of Cooder's work, the resulting music is a terrific meeting of the minds. It's so good on Theessink's subtle "Shelter from the Storm" (not the Dylan tune), especially with a male backing trio of vocalists (also inspired by Cooder's work), that you wish the two would record an entire album together. Theessink and Evans nail a sweet spot with their voices on the classic Delmore Brothers' "Blues Stay Away from Me" where just skeletal guitar and Cooder's always tasteful slide fills are all the song needs to resonate long after the last note fades. Evans and Theessink even bring fresh life to the slight but catchy Jewel Akens mid-'60s pop hit "The Birds and the Bees," with the guitarist picking up mandolin for a frisky and classy version of what most would consider an insignificant piece of fluff in its original version. ...See Full Description

Cool Blues for hot days
I rate this LP as one of the best Blues records I've ever heard...the great accoustic work and singing of Hans...the voice and electric playing of Terry....Ry Cooder adding his unique style to some of the tracks... I can't pick a favourite, they're all good songs...even a song that I detested with a passion in the early 60s has been given a new lease of life for me...The Birds and the Bees... The title song will get you tapping your toes and it's a great intro to the rest of the LP...the 3 part harmonies, the slide guitar and finger picking...just superb... It's a great mixture of originals and covers, a record that won't disappoint the lovers of Blues music... Cool Blues for a hot day...any day as a matter of fact...

Some iovely guitar lines
A good matching of Theessink and Evans with Cooder contributing to a few tracks (his name should be last) as this is a Theesssink/Evans cd. There are good arrangements, using a variety of stringed instruments and an excellent group of singers. I would have preferred "Birds and Bees" as the last song but the blues in acoustic form shine through.
