How Dare You! buy CD music The Gizmo's eerie drone is all over this record, slotting in beautifully with the multilayered vocal arrangements which were the band's other sonic trademark. How Dare You! songs The songs included here are more serious than those on the band's earlier records, although "I'm Mandy, Fly Me," "I Wanna Rule the World," and the sarcastic anthem "Art For Art's Sake" are as smart-alecky as previous hits like "Rubber Bullets" and "I'm Not In Love." ||Witty Lyrics and Good Melodies|
Hot on the heels of the success of THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK and it's big hit single "I'm Not in Love", 10CC recorded this album of catchy tunes. Although not as popular as its predecessor, it's a better recording, possibly their best ever. Beginning with the instrumental title cut which segues into "Lazy Ways", it becomes apparent that this is a band that had begun taking itself more seriously....well, maybe not totally. "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" has some of the wittier lyrics here. The song is about an airplane crash victim who's saved by a beautiful stewardess. "Art For Art's Sake" is about commerical artists who create billboards etc. just so they don't starve and "I Wanna Rule the World" is about a dictator who doesn't quite have what it takes to rule his own household. "Don't Hang Up", one of the more beautiful melodies 10CC ever created, is a lover's plea to make amends with his partner. The song closes out this album with a long dial tone after the man's lover hangs up the phone. For those not familiar with the band's material, this is a good starting point.
