Drop Dead Gorgeous I'd seen this before and it's out of print in the UK, hence buying from the USA. It's a black comedy and shows the other side of pagents, the bitching, the back stabbing etc. Interesting to watch maybe once, but don't think I'd reach for it again as a little far fetched with an odd ending. One Of the Better Mocumentaries Yes, it's true, DDG got somewhat panned when it hit theaters, and I'm not sure why...it's a deliciously biting satire of the behind-the-scenes action at the fictional "Sara Lee Miss Teen Pageant". First, kudos to all the actors for nailing the Minnesota accent (the story supposedly takes place in Mount Rose, MN.), and Kirstie Alley is a delight in her hoilier-than-thou but scheming pageant mom to the nasty but beautiful Denise Richards. Some of it is a bit farfetched (star Kisten Dunst practices her tap routines while applying makeup to cadavers at the mortuary), but it's a fun and ejoyable guilty pleasure that's sure to delight. Also enjoy a low-key but funny performance by Brittany Murphy right before she hit it big, and Ellen Barkin and Allison Janney camping it up as trailer-park best friends. Drop Dead Gorgeous-Why Don't Other People Like It? Lots of people don't like Drop Dead Gorgeous, because they aren't into the type of humor where everyone gets made fun of, or they are a boy and think the movie is too girlie.
Well, I don't think it is too girlie. I have tons of friends that are boys and love this movie, because its not only about a pageant. It has the funny Minessota accents (no offense if you are from Minnesota), and lots of things that can make everyone laugh, not only girls.
I also think the acting is finiminal, and I laugh every single time I watch the movie.
The story is also very origional, because there are lots of beauty pageant movies, but none are ever as funny as this, and have this type of humor in it.
I also think that the movie is very realistic, because Amber doesn't win the pageant at first, and if she did, it just would be very cheesy, and there really wouldn't be a point in Kirstie Alley and Denise Richard's parts because they play the cheaters who will do anything to win.
I don't see what is wrong about a non-cheesy, comedy, that is about a pageant, but boys can still enjoy watching, and Drop Dead Gorgeous is one of my personal favorite comedies ever.
