Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Director's Comments A made-for-TV mini-series based on the classic Stephen King horror novel, STEPHEN KING'S THE SHINING is a tense psychodrama about a man named Jack (Steven Weber) whom accepts a caretaker job at a winter resort, relocates his wife (Rebecca De Mornay) and child there, and subsequently goes completely insane. Jack, already in a slumbering state of depression, seems to be taken over by supernatural beings within the resort, leading him to threaten the lives of his family. More of a literal adaptation than the 1980 Stanley Kubrick film.

Stephen King's The Shining Movie Review Average Rating: (3.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Closer To King When I heard that Kubrick was going to direct 'The Shinning' back in 1980, I was overjoyed as I was a big fan of his genius. However when I saw his adaption back then, I was never so disapointed in a film. The irony is that if I had not read the book first, I would've loved the movie but to me his version wasn't anything like I imagined it would be. I admit, I wanted to see something closer to the book. Stephen King's books always play out well in your head while you're reading them and as great an actor as Jack Nicholson is, he wasn't the Jack in the book, and Shelly Duval was horribly miscast. Rebecca is so right on. This mini-series is more faithful to the book, and the fact that Halloran isn't killed off as in the Kubrick version does one's heart proud because the connection between him and the boy is so great. The animal hedges coming to life is so much better than the hedge maze Kubrick used. " Here's Johnny," was a great, un-nerving line, delivered so diabolically charming and funny in the Kubrick version but for my money, I'd rather go with this mini-series. I think most people who read the book and loved it as much as I did, would agree. Thanks CD Universe for making this version available. Submitted by Johnny D. Stephen King Masterpiece This 3 part mini series went good with the book but I like the Stanley Kubrick masterpiece of The Shining better and the good thing about this 3 part mini series is that it had more details than the origonal and went good with the book and the characters played a great part in it.But stil I think Jack Nicholson played a better part in the origonal masterpiece. A good adaptation of the book This miniserie is a good adaptation of the book, when the movie with Jack Nicholson is a very good telling of this history, this one cut some key parts of the book, and this miniserie have all the thing what make the book a great experience. Maybe the performances of the actors of this miniseries canīt be compare to the performance of the actors of the movie, but is good to see that all the details of the book is here. Very good movie but... This is a very, very good movie but Kubrick's version is better. But maybe I should not say that, maybe I should see it like two different movies, because it is two differnt movies!? Well, well, you should see it anyway... $13.59 WHICH WAY IS UP?: A seriocomic tale of love, seduction, and betrayal in the strife-torn farm country of central California. Richard Pryor plays several roles here, most significantly a migrant worker who works his way up the ranks in the agricultural company controlling one of the farms.
BREWSTER'S MILLIONS: Director Walter Hill tries his hand at this adaptation of the often-filmed novel by George Barr McCutcheon. Richard Pryor stars as Brewster, a penniless struggling pitcher for a minor league baseball team. His luck changes when he is informed that a wealthy uncle has died, leaving him a vast fortune under one condition: in order to inherit the full amount, he must first spend 30 million dollars in 30 days. The caveat: he may not give it away, spend it frivolously, or tell anyone about the arrangement, and at the end of the 30 days, no tangible assets may remain. Richard Pryor and John Candy both turn in excellent comic performances as two bush-league baseball players who are suddenly thrust into the world of the wealthy--helping make BREWSTER'S MILLIONS a winner.
CAR WASH: Director Michael Schultz follows up his critically acclaimed and commercially successful COOLEY HIGH with this hilarious day-in-the-life tale set in modern-day Los Angeles. At Sully Boyar's car wash, a motley crew of young city-dwellers "work their fingers to the bone" waiting on the eccentric and sometimes haughty clientele. Throughout the day, the young men find time to indulge in personal pursuits: one fellow fantasizes about the pretty waitress working at a local restaurant, a militant preaches politics, and more disgruntled workers find a way to justify their laziness. As the day wears ...
