Personnel: Mick Jones (vocals, guitar); Greg Roberts (vocals, drums); Don Letts, Leo "E-Zee-Kill" Williams (vocals); Dan Donovan (keyboards). Unknown Contributor Roles: Dan Donovan; Flea . Since Mick Jones was the more melodic, pop force in the Clash, it was a surprise that the band he formed after being kicked out of that group was such an unusual mix of synthesized drumming and spoken-word tape inserts, although beneath all the gimmicky sounds (and perhaps accentuated by them) were Jones's often winning songs, among which were the U.K. Top 40 hits "E=MC2" and "Medicine Show." ~ William Ruhlmann Former Clash member Mick Jones surprised all doubters with this auspicious debut. For starters, instead of going entirely solo, Jones immersed himself in another band, one that reveled in a multi-racial blend of musical styles. THIS IS BIG AUDION DYNAMITE is a seminal ground-breaker for its pastiche of movie and song samples, rock guitars, and pre-techno beats; its genre-mixing ethic helped pave the way for '90s artists such as Moby. Opening with the thrilling "Medicine Show," a laundry list of ridiculous cure-alls and remedies interspersed with dialogue and music samples from the film THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY, Jones clearly raises the bar from his final Clash moments. For a guy who once had aspirations for glam rock, Jones takes a thrillingly innovative step toward the future with THIS IS BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE.Uncut (p.136) - "The album was cleverly crafted and, beneath all the modern trappings, it was delightfully old-fashioned." | This Is Big Audio Dynamite Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) not great Though this album is alright, it doesn't deserve all the hype it received here so far. It is funny in a sense how Mick Jones left the Clash because he wanted to play more mainstraim music, while Joe Strummer wanted to experiment with different sounds. Now, as it ended up, they both experimented while going on their seperate ways. Strummer didn't need 2 guitarists for his "Cut the Crap" album, it was just part of his tampering with different sounds. One thing remains clear through all this however, The Clash is Strummer and The Clash is Jones. The solo albums they released will never compare to the chemistry they had together. It's a shame Strummer died before they could reunite. Long live the Clash!!!!!!!!!! Submitted by guitar_dude1987 (Wisconsin) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
BiiiiiiiigAudioooooodynamiiiiiiiiite!!!!!!!!!!!! okay,im only 17 but DAMN this is almost better than anything i've heard from my generation!who says its not good to dwell on the past!?at first i heard adults talking about how good the 80's was, i thought it was the regular "why,in my days..." giberish, but when i heard my generation talking about how new wave groups inspireed the i decided to check it out.one day i turned the radio on and B.A.D.'s "the bottom line" was playing it sounded so good in fact i had to unplug the headphones and turn the knob up to 100! by the time the corus was on me and my guys brought out the cardboard mat and had a freestyle break battle.
needless to say were in to the 80's deep. Submitted by a reviewer (malibu,CA,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Mick Jones stretches out with new band BAD is a wonderful, fresh new sound from Clash guitarist Mick Jones. While Joe Strummer grabbed two guitarists to replace Mick in The Clash and put out the truly horrible Cut The Crap album, Mick formed a brand new band with a wildly diverse and entertaining sound. The music is a funky stew of dub, reggae, funk, and new wave beats and samples with catchy melodies and hummable tunes. The lyrics border on camp, as they take current news and ideas (the AIDS crisis, Japanese technology takeover, fiscal uncertainty) and push them over the extreme edge and off the cliff, while still getting a message across just the same. Really quite fun and inventive. Favorite tracks are Sony and Stone Thames. Submitted by a reviewer (Ashville, OH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

This Is Big Audio Dynamite
$14.09 Audio Mixer: Randy Staub . When Layne Staley died from a drug overdose in 2002, it had already been several years since most Alice in Chains fans stopped hoping for a new album. The singer had become a recluse since the late-`90s, and there was little indication that AIC would ever again produce much in the way of new music. As a result, when the remaining members reunited to release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE in 2009, expectations were low. To the delight of all however, the album proved to be perhaps the Seattle combo's most energetic and consistent effort since its masterpiece DIRT. Perhaps the most ...
