Nonpoint: Andrew Goldman (vocals, guitar); Elias Soriano (vocals); KB (bass); Robb Rivera (drums). Recorded at Elysian Studios, Boca Raton, Florida. Personnel: Elias Soriano (vocals); Robbie Rivera (drums). Audio Mixer: Bob Clearmountain. Recording information: Elysian Studios, Boca Raton, FL. Photographer: Matt Swig. Nonpoint's major-label debut, the intoxicating Statement, welcomed this multicultural Florida quartet to the mainstream, introducing its edgy independent sound to the world of excessive production and watered-down mediocrity. After two solid years of touring, Nonpoint has returned a more experienced band, and with Development looks to find its deserved niche in the crossover community. The bandmembers have most definitely grown as musicians since their last effort, as the music captured within this album is much more focused and efficient at weaving its spell on the listener, while Elias Soriano's signature vocals have tapped into a brand new well of depth and maturity. Development happens to have a much more crisp production, yet unfortunately this clear, pronounced quality comes at the expense of the gritty edge the band was known quite well for. Nonpoint has obviously stepped forth to find its rightful place in the mainstream this time around, and while truthfully many of the aggressive elements that stood out on past releases -- most prominently Soriano's furious rap-tinged bellowing -- have been replaced by a passionate melodic range, Nonpoint still remains one of the supreme underground gems. Songs such as "Your Signs" and "Mint" strike with vicious melodic precision, implanting themselves deep within one's memory with glorious hooks. Musically, the band has eased off on the in-your-face crunch it formerly excelled at, yet the heavy tones are still abundant, just streamlined for easier digestion. It should be noted that Nonpoint has not completely retreated from its aggressive stance, as "Excessive Reaction" and "Get Inside" could have easily fit in as tracks on Statement, yet these also happen to be the shortest songs on the 12-track album. Nonpoint has grown up, as Development finds the band literally developing its own signature sound, in the process refining its scope to a much sharper point. Sophomore efforts tend to be tremendous stepping stones that either make or break young bands, and in this case, Nonpoint has offered a much more direct, accessible release. As it stands, it appears that the next installment in the Nonpoint evolution will accurately be titled Achievement, for the group has surely accomplished a spectacular feat here, the members of Nonpoint proving that they have become the band they searched for all along. ~ Jason D. Taylor Floridian metal purveyors Nonpoint have grown immensely since their debut, STATEMENT introduced them to the masses in 2000. As MCA's flagship nu-metal act, the quartet made its bones, touring with every significant contemporary heavy band that would have them (including Staind, Linkin Park, and making a serious impact on the legendary Ozzfest touring festival, to name just a few). The connecting thread that meshes the disc's 12 tracks is summed up simply in the title; DEVELOPMENT. The band's collaborative songwriting craft is tighter, more mature, while maintaining the precious grooves that turned heads with STATEMENT. Taking cues from their rap-metal brethren, Nonpoint have made the jump to melodic singing taking precedence over their initial hip-hop leanings. Vocalist Elias Soriano sounds at times like a sandpapery Maynard James Keenan (Tool). The shotgun syncopation in "Circles" is matched only by it's feverishly catchy chorus. Guitarist Andrew Goldman's thoughtful chordal voicings show that there is truly hope for nu metal, as he reaches far beyond the down-tuned, chugging, single-note unison riffs the genre is notorious for. Clearly, Nonpoint is a band on the rise, and metal fans will only benefit from their continued progression an Nonpoint Development Songs Development Music Review Average Rating: (3.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Nonpoint changes there style of music a lot. Nonpoint gone Unraw! These songs differs very much from the songs on their first album Statement.
I really miss the kick i got out of inexample
listening to mindtrip, what a day and more from Statement. This album is not recommended to people who liked the raw side of Nonpoint. But if you also like the little more mellow/raw side of Nonpoint you will probly like it. There are more melodic melodies and he really proves that he can sing and not only growl. But i enoyed the old album more!!!!!
Like Papa Roach their new album is weak but their old album Infest was raw and i still listen to it! I really hope this unraw thing is not a fashion!!!! So i'll give it a 3 stars. Submitted by a reviewer (Bergen, Norway) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
You gotta be kidding me This is a somewhat soft, streamling affair. No offense, really. Recoil sounded tough. The riffs have the intensity on this album that seethes thru on the next two albums to match the ability of the vocalist's seething voice to proportionate levels. This fails to match Recoil. Nevertheless, this is a critics' fav. OMG! I get the progression! Submitted by Hmmm ... (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Nonpoint: Elias Soriano (vocals); Andrew Goldman (guitar, background vocals); KB (bass); Robb Rivera (drums). Additional personnel: Grimm (vocals). Recorded at Elysian Studios, Boca Raton, Florida. Combining rapping and singing isn't anything new for metal bands; Anthrax and the Red Hot Chili Peppers were doing it in the mid-'80s (a time that also found Run-D.M.C., the Beastie Boys, and other trailblazing MCs rhyming to metal guitars). But the practice became even more common in the 1990s, when a lot of young headbangers were quick to point out that hip-hop and rock played equally important roles in their lives -- if Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies ...
