Prod.By Kim Shattuck Of"Muffs" All Girl Band Fr. So.Cal.
The Halo Friendlies: Judita, Natalie (vocals, guitar); Ginger (vocals, bass); Christina (drums). Additional personnel: Evan Frankfort (keyboards, background vocals); Kim SShattuck (background vocals). Recorded at Chicken Toes Ranch, Hollywood, California. Personnel: Evan Frankfort (vocals, keyboards); Kim Shattuck (vocals). Audio Mixer: Evan Frankfort. Photographers: Matt Maust; Matt Wignall. Immaculately produced by Kim Shattuck of the Muffs, Get Real is a tidy, enjoyable blast of punk-pop which captures the fervor of a live performance despite its studio polish. Akin to the Bangles, Joan Jett, and Juliana Hatfield, this muscular, guitar-driven female quartet purveys Brill Building pop-derived hooks, infectious harmonies, and simple motifs rendered with verve, spunk, and a feel-good/devil-may-care attitude. Each track is an anthem unto itself, depicting boy meets girl, girl meets boy, girl wants boy, boy can't have girl, and so on without sounding repetitive or contrived. "Over You," "I'm All Eyes," and "Milwaukee" are among the choicest cuts, played fast and furious. "Unsaid Goodbyes," the obligatory teenage broken-heart ballad, is curiously chosen to end the disc. Had this collection come out during the new wave explosion of the early '80s, Halo Friendlies certainly would have filled arenas aplenty and spun endlessly on MTV and modern rock radio. However, in the year 2002 Get Real is more of a nostalgia trip -- but one worth taking.~ Tom Semioli
Halo Friendlies Get Real Songs Get Real Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) AWESOME GROUP This group is awesome. They totally rock, and when you listen to their music, it makes you want to go out and form a band of your own! Submitted by shiningon1987 (Missouri, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Best All Girl Rock Around! This album just rules sooooo much, you would be stupid to not add it to your collection. 'Get Real' is an amazing collection of punk-rock tunes and what better way to top it off but to have female vocals! Highlights include, 'Sellout', 'Just Like Me', 'Milwaukee', 'Run Away', 'Selfish' and 'Disapear', but all the songs just truely rock anyway.... SO BUY IT NOW! Get Real
$7.89 As evidenced by their tongue-in-cheek title (after all, "fun" is IDM's very own f-word), Stars as Eyes strove to dispense with the cement greys and muted blacks of the duo's naval-gazing debut in favor of something more vibrant and lively for this second album. So, in addition to their familiar strain of polite electronics ...

| | Dave McCann and the Firehearts Dixiebluebird CD (2009)
Get Real
$17.09 Road ghosts, fallen shows and the blur of years built by song, sweat and stage noise. Americana-edged rock and roll tangled with the continuous trail of broken strings, headlights and a hell of a lot of laughter. You’re looking at the guiding force behind Dave McCann and his fourth release “Dixiebluebird.”Produced by guitarist, producer and Nashville alt-icon Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider, Mavis Staples, Rodney Crowell), “Dixiebluebird” is Dave’s strongest work to date. A wealth of road and heart worn original material that lays a torch to the influence of Bruised Country Soul, Classic Southern Rock and Heartfelt Americana. “Dixiebluebird” also brings transition, with an introduction to Dave McCann and the Firehearts. It’s a new name, but the same superlative line up: long time guitarist Dave Bauer, multi-instrumentalist Pete Loughlin on Bass, Tim Williams on Drums and all the sagacious force of Charlie Hase on the Pedal Steel Guitar.“Dixiebluebird” was recorded at the Toybox Studio-a backyard studio hidden out in the old neighborhoods of East Nashville. Owned and operated by Eli “Lij” Shaw and aptly named after it’s incredible collection of historic and vintage gear. Beautiful compressors, incredible mics, and the analog MCI console that was rescued out of Florida’s Criteria Studios after the Seventies. It’s recorded the luminaries, Neil Young, Steven Stills, Elvin Bishop, Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh, the Marshall Tucker Band, the Eagles, the list goes on and you can sense that historic heartfelt rock influence. From the title track “Dixiebluebird” to the high-caliber rockers like “Bloodpines” and ...
