Studio guru and AOR purveyor Tom Scholz rolls out a Boston for 2002 with CORPORATE AMERICA. Ever oblivious of musical trends, the lineup is a hybrid of the '80s and '90s incarnations of the band. With the much-anticipated return of vocalist Brad Delp, one would think that this album would pick up where THIRD STAGE left off. Curiously, Scholz continues a pass-the-baton approach to lead vocals (as with 1994's WALK ON), including himself, Fran Cosmo, and new member Kimberly Dahme.
That being said, CORPORATE AMERICA has its moments. The production is all that Boston fans would expect; Rocktron fueled harmony guitars, combinations of both acoustic and triggered drums and of course, stacks of analog keyboards. Not surprisingly, the songs that feature Delp ("Didn't Mean To Fall In Love," "Someone") are the set's high points.

Not Great but Not Bad Boston's "Corporate America" consists of songs that sound like they were written by aging rock musicians - which, lets face it, is what Boston is now. While the rythm and pacing of the music on this CD isn't what it was with Boston's earlier efforts, they do match the reflective, somber lyrics which ride it.
The biggest problem I have with the whole CD is the childishly liberal stuff in the liner notes! Submitted by kmastaw (Milwaukee, WI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Awesome I have loved Boston for years. It amazes me that while going through a job change I used the phrase "Corporate America could care less if I show up for work". This described my feeling of dissatisfaction with corporate "atmosphere".
This cd gives the listener classic Boston sound with a very current feel. I really enjoy the new members and their contributions. They have blended in and molded Boston without taking away its personality Submitted by a reviewer (Middleburg, Florida USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Go Back to the Red Meat! This album is such a disappointment. I have no idea what Tom Scholz was thinking about. Maybe it was his leftist agenda. Odd, I am listening to the new Ted Nugent "Craveman" and it blows "Corporate America" out of the water. Tom is pushing PETA, vegetarianism and a bunch of other yak on this album; Ted kills things and eats them. I liked Boston better when they were "on the red meat"! Very Sad. Corporate America (the record company) should have put a stop to this one before it hit the stores. Expectations were high waiting for this to come out and it simply fizzles. The only bright spot was the female singer they brought in, terrific voice.
Sorry, but, this just wasn't a very good effort at all. Submitted by a reviewer (Newton, N.J.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Corporate America album
$10.39 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with covers of Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," and a version of "Daydream Believer" that is easily the slowest on record. Boyle sings beautifully throughout, delivering more of the same of what she did in her moment in the sun on television. Those won over by Boyle, either her voice or story, will surely be satisfied. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
There's no question that Susan Boyle's story is inspiring, but the same adjective can't quite apply to her debut, I Dreamed a Dream. ...

Whether you were one of the fans who feared or one of the detractors who hoped that Pink would fail to follow-up her smash debut album, M!SSUNDAZTOOD serves notice that the lady with the pink hair (yes, it still is) is more than just a one-shot flash in the pan. The grooving pop of the title-track is less hip-hop oriented than Pink's previous hits, sounding more like an amiable collision between Smash Mouth and Sugar Ray. "Don't Let Me Get Me" and "Just Like a Pill" tread even closer to pop-rock territory, the latter bearing an anthemic quality that wouldn't sound out of place on an Alanis Morissette album. The appropriately titled "Get the Party Started is a funky party anthem, and the rap-flavored "Respect" is a modern urban update on the classic Aretha theme. Whether she's making her way through pop, rock, rap, or R&B, Pink struts confidently enough through M!SSUNDAZTOOD to assure her admirers that she intends to stick around for quite a while.
