Godsmack: Tony Rombola (vocals, guitar); Robbie Merrill (vocals, bass); Sully Erna (vocals); Shannon Larkin (drums, percussion). "Straight Out Of Line" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: Robbie Merrill (vocals, strings); Sully Erna (vocals); Shannon Larkin (drums, sound effects); "Viggy" Vignola (programming). Audio Mixer: David Bottrill. Recording information: Soundtracks Recording Studio, New York, NY; The Hit Factory Criteria, Miami, FL. Photographer: P.R. Brown. Godsmack's first, slow-burning success -- the self-titled debut from 1998 -- spent two years climbing charts and selling records as the witchy minstrels of alternative metal wound their way across the country on two consecutive Ozzfest tours. The sound was familiar enough, recalling Alice in Chains in both vocalist Sully Erna's tortured howls and their very name, taken from that band's excellent 1992 release, Dirt. And while it initially failed to impress critics, fans quickly picked up on the band's industrial touch to the post-grunge sound. Likewise, 2001's Awake was regarded by some as a sophomore slump, with only half of the sales of Godsmack's debut, but "slump" in this case equaled double-platinum. And though the sales did validate the band's effort to some extent, Awake was full of growing pains, as they tried in vain to shed their influences and ended up with a record that had successful moments, but its reliance on stop-start rhythms often left it sounding sorely underwritten. Faceless, Godsmack's third full-length, grooves more fluidly than Awake, but the band still hasn't managed to locate the pop hooks that made their debut a success. And while concentrating on texture can be just as interesting as hooks, lyrics as misanthropic as Erna's only sink Faceless further into the mire. ~ Wade Kergan Godsmack first came to fame with a seamless blend of Metallica-like vocals and hooks and seemingly Tool-inspired prog-metal sensibilities all combined into an unrelentingly aggressive sonic attack. FACELESS continues in that tradition, delivering blow after aural blow via hellfire guitar riffs, devil's-anvil drums, and a gut-wrenching sense of dynamics. As implied above, singer Sully Erna alternates handily between James Hetfield-style lion growl and more vulnerable Maynard James Keenan tones, singing of all that's gone wrong both in himself and in the world that surrounds him, while the rest of the band does a fine job of representing the mayhem of modern society. Unlike many other nu-metal types, Godsmack doesn't feel the need to leaven their attack with crossover-potential ballads and orchestral/electronic interludes. FACELESS provides one breathless bash after another without fail, never giving an inch until the very end, when the percussion-and-chanting strains of "The Awakening" give way to the largely acoustic, rather Alice in Chains-sounding closing tune "Serenity." | | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Faceless
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its pop culture, I don't know what does, expect for maybe a VH1-endorsed piece of product like Live in ...

| | Godsmack Other Side CD (2004)
Faceless
$8.49 Acoustic Album Of Hits + 3 New Tracks.
Godsmack: Sully (vocals); Tony (guitar, background vocals); Robbie (bass); Shannon (drums, percussion). This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players. Godsmack: Sully (vocals); Tony (guitar, background vocals); Robbie (bass); Shannon (drums, percussion). The Other Side is Godsmack's first acoustic offering. Totaling seven songs, it's not quite a full album. But fans will note its mixture old and new material, as well as the departure from Sully Erna and co.'s normal metallurgical sonic signature. The primary influence here is Alice in Chains. New track "Running Blind" is dominated by the high-low harmony sound that's become Alice in Chains' legacy, as is "Re-Align," which otherwise doesn't drift very far from Faceless' electrified ...
| | Godsmack IV CD (2006)
Faceless
$12.89 Godsmack: Sully Erna (vocals, various instruments); Tony Rombola (guitar); Robbie Merrill (bass guitar); Shannon Larkin (drums). IV is the 2006 release from alt-metal outfit Godsmack. The band's sound, which draws from both traditional heavy metal and hard-hitting grunge-era acts like Alice in Chains, has remained largely consistent since their 1997 debut, and IV continues that pattern. Crunching distortion, snaky riffs, and thunderous rhythms make up the bulk of the sound, while Sully Erna's gruff, sometimes drone-oriented singing (which certainly owes a debt to Alice in Chains' Layne Staley) creates an evocative counter-balance. But while IV may not overflow with musical reinvention, it boasts the strongest batch of songs the band has written since their debut. The album's ...
| | Squirrels Not-So-Bright Side Of The Moon CD (2000)
Faceless
$12.89 a rollicking, brain-bending, often hilarious reworking of the entire Pink Floyd album "The Dark Side Of The Moon," clear down to the infamous sound effects, packaging & mysterious background mumbling (provided largely in this case by Tortelvis & Ed Zeppe
Personnel: Joey Kline (vocals); Ed Zeppelin, Tortelvis (spoken vocals); Jimmy "JT" Thomas (whistling, guitar, slide guitar); Kurt Bloch (guitar); Skerik (saxophone); Tom Morrison (keyboards, synthesizer). Audio Mixer: Conrad Uno. Recording information: Egg Studios, Seattle, WA (08/18/1999-09/02/1999); Ghost Nation Studios, Pasadena (08/18/1999-09/02/1999); Vulcan Research Center, Seattle, WA (08/18/1999-09/02/1999). Arranger: The Squirrels. After a couple of years of semi-retirement, Morgan was offered the chance to do a project he and longtime friend and bandmate Eric Erickson had contemplated: a complete trashing of the classic rock radio staple Pink Floyd record The Dark Side of the Moon. Erickson had tragically passed on before it could be realized, but with the financial help of a well-heeled Dutch fan Morgan reassembled his core crew -- Kline, Thomas, Hollis the Bug, bassist Kevin Crosby, and keyboardist Tom Morrison -- and went at it with longtime producer Conrad Uno. The result is an insane masterpiece of musical achievement and comedy both, poking so many holes in that particular sacred cow that it's a wonder Roger Waters didn't spontaneously combust. With the help of Morgan's friends Tortelvis and Ed Zeppelin from Dread Zeppelin contributing their versions of the spoken word snippets -- along with the help of Baby Cheevers, returned from the dead ...
