Includes bonus DVD. Post-stoner rock quartet Dirty Rig have chosen a suitable title, Blood, Sweat and Beer Make America Strong, to describe the so-called "beer metal" contained in their 2003 debut. Sounding rather like a latter-day Corrosion of Conformity jamming with Clutch and Rob Zombie on vocals, the Long Island natives get off to a fairly inauspicious start with the unremarkable "Hitch Hiker," but gain strength with each successive track on this six-song mini-album. Starting with the far more memorable "GTO," which sees a keening, Ozzy Osbourne-inspired warble replacing the gruff, also Clutch-like, vocals heard thus far, one realizes that it's versatile Ed Sebastian who may truly be the group's secret weapon. As if to prove this assumption correct, he then assumes an appropriately whiney delivery to help pure hard rocker "Throw Down" strut just like Guns n' Roses. Next, Chas Banellis's dirt-encrusted guitar riffs propel the slow-grooving "Leather Boots," and yet another great hard rock single in "Alcohog." Finally, an over-the-top guitar solo on the closing "Two" finds Dirty Rig bordering on full-tilt metal mania -- another sign that the band has a lot more going for them than initially apparent. A bonus DVD containing performances of three live tracks makes up somewhat for the mere six songs on hand. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia Blood, Sweat & Beer Make America Strong Music Dirty Rig Blood, Sweat & Beer Make America Strong Songs Blood, Sweat & Beer Make America Strong Music Review Purchase Blood, Sweat & Beer Make America Strong CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Death Angel Act III CD (1990)

Blood, Sweat & Beer Make America Strong
$11.65 The Sword (Texas): John D. Cronise (vocals, guitar); Kyle Shutt (guitar); Bryan Richie (bass guitar); Trivett Wingo (drums, percussion). GODS OF THE EARTH is a continuation of AGE OF WINTERS' assault on eardrums, while a step forward in sheer relentlessness, grabbing you by the devil horns and dragging you through the headbanging mire. Combing thrash, doom, hardcore, and speed metal, this Texan quartet has torn through singer/guitarist J.D. Cronise's tapestry of wizard-and-warlock-imagery and evaded silly cliché by imbuing the songs' bombast ...

$7.59 Additional Tracks
Blue Oyster Cult: Joe Bouchard (vocals, guitar, bass); Eric Bloom, Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (vocals, guitar); Albert Bouchard (vocals, drums, harmonica); Allen Lanier (guitar, keyboards). Additional personnel: Newark Boys Chorus. Producers: Murray Krugman, Sandy Pearlman, David Lucas, Blue Oyster Cult. Recorded at The Record Plant, New York, New York. Composer: Blue Öyster Cult. Blue Öyster Cult: Donald (Buck Dharma) Roeser, Eric Bloom, Allen Lanier (guitar); Joe Bouchard (bass guitar); Albert Bouchard (drums). Blue Öyster Cult scored big with Agents of Fortune and its now-classic rock hit, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." It took the album into the stratosphere and the band's profile with it; it put them in the visible pop space they'd tried for years to get to. But upon arrival, they found that kind of success difficult to respond to. Not only did the Cult want to respond, they wanted to cement their place. Spectres is not the masterpiece that Agents of Fortune is, but it didn't need to be. However, upon hearing Spectres again, the album offers proof that the commercial and creative bent of Agents of Fortune was still in place at certain moments, and the band laid out a major single in the opening cut, "Godzilla," a tune -- however silly it may be -- that is every bit as memorable as "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." It's not the only big number here ...
