Parental Advisory. New Group With Nikki Six & Traci Gunz
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Brides of Destruction: Nikki Sixx (bass instrument); Tracii Guns, London LeGrand, Scott Coogan. Personnel: Tracii Guns (vocals, guitar); Scott Coogan (vocals, drums); Nikki Sixx, London LeGrand (vocals); John Corabi (guitar); Kris Kohls (drums). Audio Mixer: Ken Ramos. Recording information: Klown Studios, Santa Monica, CA. Illustrator: Erik C. Casillas. Photographer: John Harrell. Evidently, Brides of Destruction's lineup was in flux from the beginning. Word was Adema drummer Kris Kohls contributed for a minute, as did post-glory era Mötley Crüe shouter John Corabi. Corabi ends up with a guitar credit in the liners to Here Come the Brides, BoD's Sanctuary debut, but he's long gone from the official lineup of bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Tracii Guns, ex-All-4-One tour drummer Scott Coogan, and LA hangabout London LeGrand on vocals. The sound? By-the-numbers Los Angeles metal with slight post-grunge updates. "Shut the F*** Up" draws on Generation Swine-era Crüe, while "I Got a Gun" reaches eagerly for classic Queensr˙che. The Brides play well as a unit, and LeGrand makes up for his lack of nuance with power. The collaboration between Sixx and Guns should make Here Come the Brides noteworthy to their fans, while casual metal listeners will look to the glut of heavy riffing and dedication -- with occasional detours -- to the classic pointed boots-and-velvet shirts Los Angeles sound. ~ Johnny Loftus A kind of hair-metal supergroup comprised of Motley Crue bassist/songwriter Nikki Sixx, L.A. Guns/Guns 'N' Roses founder Tracii Guns, and a pair of longtime Los Angeles scenesters, Brides Of Destruction combines rough-and-ready retro hard rock with a more modern, grunge/punk-leaning approach. After just a few songs, it's clear that HERE COMES THE BRIDES is an unique hybrid. Full of trashy guitar and trashier drums, the album summons the ghosts of Black Flag, the Sex Pistols, and the Dead Kennedys, but sends them scurrying back to their graves with that most non-punk of musical elements: the blistering guitar solo. Lead singer London LeGrand has an amazingly versatile voice, and manages to sound equally convincing on garage rockers, power ballads, and metal anthems alike. At times he echoes everyone from Iggy Pop ("I Don't Care") to Layne Staley ("I Got A Gun") to Jeff Buckley and Enrique Iglesias ("Only Get So Far"). In the end, though, what makes HERE COMES THE BRIDES so infectious is that it sounds like a band effort by players who live to rock, unabashed, and devoid of irony or angst.
