Dropbox: John Kosco (vocals); Lee Richards (guitar, background vocals); Joe Wilkinson (guitar); Jimmy Preziosa (bass); Bob Jenkins (drums). Additional personnel: Sully Erna (drums). Personnel: Lee Richards (vocals, guitar); John Kosco (vocals); Joe Wilkinson (guitar); Bob Jenkins , Sully Erna (drums). Audio Mixer: Dave Jerden. Photographer: P.R. Brown. Dropbox's debut is emblazoned with a sticker blurb from Sully Erna, who proclaims that the band's melodies are the best he's heard since Alice in Chains. That's high praise. But it's also a bit misleading, since Dropbox are the first signees to Erna's Realign/Universal vanity imprint. The Godsmack mastermind also had a hand in Dropbox's creation, introducing guitarist Lee Richards (himself a former member of Godsmack) to vocalist John Kosco. Erna also played drums on the majority of the band's self-titled debut. What all of this really means is that Dropbox doesn't fall very far from the Godsmack tree. Whether the vocal harmonies of post-grunge anthems "Wishbone," "Unfold," and "I Feel Fine" really are on par with Alice in Chains, there's no question that the band is Dropbox's primary -- some would say only -- influence. Kosco, Richards, fellow guitarist Joe Wilkinson, and bassist Jimmy Preziosa temper their sludgier moments with brooding material ("Take Away the Sun"), and also find time for some straightforward heavy rock in the vein of Tantric ("Run," "I Told You"). But for the most part, Dropbox stick to recycling the powerful riffs and throaty vocals of vintage grunge, whether it's Alice or the chugging bottom end of Soundgarden, most apparent in the aforementioned "Wishbone." Godsmack fans won't be disappointed, even though Drop don't pack quite the metallic crunch of that group. The real audience for Dropbox seems like the casual active rock radio listener, the fan willing to take harder moments with the soft, and looking for melodic progressions suggestive of grunge's past glories. ~ Johnny Loftus Developed with the guiding hand of Godsmack frontman Sully Erna, Dropbox has little to do with the former band's brand of heavily produced, industrial-leaning nu-metal. Rather, Dropbox's debut disc offers a heaping helping of old-school grunge characterized by the tried-and-true trio of sledgehammer riffs, throaty vocals, and pounding drums. Lead vocalist John Kosco often sounds startlingly like the late Layne Staley, but Dropbox is no Alice in Chains tribute band; the group's sound is rawer and more direct, with a heavy sound often reminiscent of Soundgarden or Black Sabbath. Brandishing a dark, melancholy edge that characterized many of the best original grunge bands, DROPBOX should appeal both to the flannel faithful pining for the genre's early 1990s heyday, and youngsters wondering what all the fuss was about. | Dropbox Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews wishbone best tune yeah wishbone is the best tune on the disc.other tunes just dont get you going enough..if you are pissed at the world, this disc doesnt fuel the fire...if you are down, or depressed, it doesnt bring you further , or lift you out of your hole..very mediocre attempt from sully's buddies!! feel free to disagree, but you are better off burning a copy!! Boring...steals other band's styles. After listening to this CD, I am convinced the music was copied from other bands. 'Fall Away' rips Dream Theater's 'As I Am'. Everything else belongs to Alice in Chains. The only good song is Wishbone. After hearing this CD, I want to listen to the bands they sound like.
If this were a demo, I guess I would understand...but it isn't. 0 out of 5 stars except for Wishbone. Submitted by Tone (Denver, CO USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Rammstein Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CDs (2009) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Dropbox
$17.65 Deluxe Edition
Audio Mixer: Stefan Glaumann. Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful ...

| | Sausage Riddles Are Abound Tonight CD (1994)
Dropbox
$8.49 Sausage: Todd Huth (guitar, vocals); Les Claypool (bass, vocals); Jay Lane (drums). Recorded at The Corn, Berkeley, California. All songs written by members of Sausage. Sausage features the original personnel of Primus. Personnel: Todd Huth (vocals, guitar); Les Claypool (vocals); Jay Lane (drums). Recording information: Corn, Berkeley, CA; The Corn, Berkely, CA. Photographer: Charles Richardson. To the casual listener, Sausage -- whose three members formed the original lineup of Primus -- won't sound noticeably different from Les Claypool's main gig. After all, his trademark slap-bass style and cartoonish vocals still command center stage here. But fans will notice the group's more accessible sound right away. Drummer Jay Lane's style is much ...
| | Maxine Brown 25 All-Time Greatest Hits CD (2002)
Dropbox
$14.45 Compilation producers: Cary E. Mansfield, Bill Dahl. Recorded between 1961 & 1967. Includes liner notes by Bill Dahl. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Liner Note Author: Bill Dahl. There was more than one Maxine Brown greatest-hits collection prior to this 2002 release, and no doubt there will be others in the future. On its own merits, though, it does a good job of assembling her best-known material, focusing on her mid-'60s recordings for Wand, which yielded the bulk of her best and highest-selling sides. One small advantage this does have over prior collections, such as Kent's fine Oh No Not My Baby: The Best of Maxine Brown, is that it does include her two key pre-Wand hits released on Nomar in 1961, in their original versions: "All in My Mind" and "Funny" (the versions on Oh No Not My Baby are later re-recordings). Otherwise, it's mostly top of the line mid-'60s pop-soul, including her biggest and best singles of the era: "Oh No Not My Baby," "Ask Me," "One Step at a Time," and "It's Gonna Be Alright," as well as good non-hits like "One in a Million," "Gotta Find a Way," "Put Yourself in My Place," and "Since I Found You." There aren't any of her recordings with Chuck Jackson, which might miff some fans, as some of those singles charted. But really, those duets weren't up to the standard of her best solo work, so it's not a significant ...
| | Angel City Outcasts Let It Ride CD (2005)
Dropbox
$11.55 Angel City Outcasts: Tak Boroyan (vocals, guitar); Alex Brugge (vocals); Bob Zamudio (guitar); Alex Zabolotsky (bass guitar); Ryan "Scotchy" Markley (drums). Personnel: Alex B., Joey LaRocca (vocals). Additional personnel: Joey LaRocca. Recording information: Succulent Sounds (10/2003-02/2004). It would be truly awesome if the Angel City Outcasts were comprised of people who had gotten kicked out of the largely forgotten '80s Australian metal dudes Angel City, but in fact, they're a bunch of smart alecks from Los Angeles (naturally) playing a sardonic brand of old-school punk with an attitude somewhere around the Dickies or early Redd Kross, but without the edge that kept those bands ...
