A tribute to the hallmark metal band by top rockers Dee Snyder, Tommy Shaw, Mark Slaughter, Chris Jericho, Kip Winger, Buzz Osborne, Page Hamilton, Lemmy Kilmeister, Doug Pinnick, Phil Lewis and Robin McAuley. The bonus DVD includes a 40 minute documentary containing performances, session footage and interviews from the making of the album. With the above, Doug Ladrich, Bruce Kulick, Tim Bogart, Carmine Appice, Mike Porcaro, Greg Bissonette, Robben Ford, Bob Kulick, lots more.
This release includes a limited edition bonus DVD. Compilation producers: Bob Kulick, Bruce Bouillet. Includes liner notes by Bob Kulick. If you were in a room with the all of the players on Spin the Bottle it would certainly be an honor. There's the mighty Lemmy, the needs-no-introduction Dee Snider, and guitar and drum legends like Robben Ford, Paul Gilbert, Carmine Appice, and Aynsley Dunbar. That's a lot of hard rock royalty, but it's not "too many cooks in the kitchen" that hurts Spin the Bottle, it's the flat-as-a-pancake production. There's a feeling that there was a wipe board in the studio with each player's schedule ("Tommy Shaw will be here on the 20th, and Mark Slaughter can lay his track down on the 22nd..."). Even if it's missing that "live" feeling, the recording is at least very crisp, so all the shredding guitar playing -- and there's plenty -- comes through loud and clear. Aspiring guitar heroes get a wealth of solos to transcribe thanks to producer Bob Kulick, who's not only the brother of Bruce Kulick (Kiss guitarist 1984-1995), but he's also the guy who auditioned for the group right before they found Ace Frehley. Rounding up King Buzzo from the Melvins and wrestler turned rock star Chris Jericho and coupling Kip Winger with Paul Gilbert are just some of the great ideas Kulick realizes on Spin the Bottle, and Doug Pinnick's gutsy take on the great "Parasite" is a Frehley fan's dream. The good points outweigh the bad, and if you can overdrive the overly clean sound through some dirty old speakers this album really rocks. Spin The Bottle: A Tribute To Kiss Music Spin The Bottle: A Tribute To Kiss Songs Spin The Bottle: A Tribute To Kiss Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Collector's Opinion Although this cd is very good, it's not the best I've ever heard. When you listen to it you can tell a lot of effort when into it, but it still winds up being just another tribute album. Submitted by philrich (Senoia, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
FINALLY A KILLER TRIBUTE Most tribute albums are a lame mixed up bag of shuffled around songs that have no resemblance to the original songs. Not this one, this album starts off with the mighty Dee Snider screaming his way through a dynamite rendition of "Detroit Rock City" and never lets up from there. Whoemever chose the artist for this KISS tribute did a hell of a job. Every song on this rock, sum with even more fire than the KISS versions, such as the fiery rendition of "I Stole Your Love" with Robin Mcauely. Also Buzz Osbourne of The Melvins TOTALLY kills on "God Of Thunder". Mark SLaughter shows another side to his voice on "Gold Gin". Everything on this album sounds great, the vocals the music, the production, everything. Plus you get a cool 45 minute interview DVD. If your a KISS fan and a fan of these artist pick this one up you won't be dissapointed. Bob Kulick has mad a tribute lp. worth the money!!!
