Martyr A.D.: Drewhart, JJ Thrash, Sheer Tara, Chazmo, Karl. Unusually for a semi-major label like Victory, Martyr AD's second full-length release is completely straightforward Scandinavian-style death metal with few hardcore, emo, or pop influences. The Minnesota-based quintet, born out of the ashes of the late, lamented Disembodied with new singer Andy Hart screaming his best death-rattle bellow over Joel Johnson and Charlie Johnson's lockstep unison guitar riffs, deliver 12 concise, pummelingly hard tracks in just over 30 minutes, balancing the longer and more traditional songs with brief, even noisier interludes like the two-part "The Last Words of Any Meaning," which keeps the album from dragging the way that so many similar records do. The particular highlight is the corrosive speedcore blast "American Hollow," on which drummer Karl Hensel's double-bass pedal sounds like it was hooked up to a motor running at about 2000 rpm. A strong improvement over Martyr AD's debut, On Earth as It Is In Hell is about as good as American death metal gets. ~ Stewart Mason On Earth As It Is In Hell Music Martyr A D On Earth As It Is In Hell Songs On Earth As It Is In Hell Music Review Purchase On Earth As It Is In Hell CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Alice In Chains Dirt CD (1992)

$8.99 Mudvayne: Chad Gray (vocals); Greg Tribbett (guitar); Ryan Martinie (bass guitar); Matt McDonough (drums). It's been three years for Mudvayne, three years when metal started to reject its "rap" and "nu" prefixes. At first, Lost and Found reflects that realignment. Vocalist Chad Gray and his mates have nixed the nicknames and makeup for ...

| | In Flames A Sense of Purpose CD (2008) (Import) With DVD; Germany
On Earth As It Is In Hell
$18.05 Unafraid to push boundaries with their previous releases, this DVD/CD set finds the band taking yet another step forward. Still there is the patented melodic metal style that the band is famous for. Yet added to it is a new level of metallic riffing that will not only appeal to their old fans but opens them up to a legion of new followers. This title carries a parental advisory.
In Flames: Anders Fridén (vocals); Björn Gelotte, Jesper Strömblad (guitars); Peter Iwers (bass guitar); Daniel Svensson (drums). Eighteen years and nine albums into bandhood, In Flames show zero sign of age. While the fierce Swedish band occasionally stops to breathe, as with the baroque folk break midway through "Alias," the metal assault on A SENSE OF PURPOSE is mostly relentless. That's not to say the 2008 follow-up to the massively successful COME CLARITY (and first album for Koch) lacks melody, but that the hook-laden riffs pile on top of one another for a complex yet captivating wall of sound. It's a fire that can consume, as on the taut "Move Through Me," or smolder somberly as on "The Chosen Pessimist." With veteran producer Daniel Bergstrand behind the boards, A SENSE OF PURPOSE is a downright elegant metal album that wears its title well. Frantic metal band In Flames can ...
