Atomship: Joey Culver (vocals); Nathan Slade (guitar); Chad Kent (drums). Personnel: Joey Culver (vocals); Nathan Slade (guitar); Chad Kent (drums). Audio Mixer: Dave Fortman . Recording information: Clear Lake Audio, North Hollywood, CA; NRG Recording Studios, North Hollywood, CA. Photographer: Frank Veronsky. Referencing the alleged alien UFO crash near Roswell, NM, Atomship's The Crash of '47 is pretty unique compared to most of its contemporary hard rock peers. Most of that is due to the vocal approach of Joey Culver, who has a clear, powerful voice that at times sounds like an amalgam of Ozzy Osbourne, José Feliciano, and Brandon Boyd. Speaking of the latter, the alluring, acoustic "Withered" is a dead ringer for Incubus, but Atomship's vibrant riffs and thumping rhythms are most often at work, propelling the forceful, Creed-like roll of "Day of Daze" and the melodic, System of a Down-derived crunch of "Aliens." The group is most distinct on the intricate "Mothra," where an intricate, percussive, Rush-like arrangement makes Atomship sound like today's answer to prog rock. Like it or not, this is a talented band with a promising future. ~ John D. Luerssen

Great album This is one great progressive rock album. The drummer is clearly talented, as well as the vocalist... with haunting sung vocals (Dragonfly, Withered) to angry shouting (Mothra, Angent Orange), to spoken vocals (Pencil Fight). The lyrics are complex and abstract. The music ranges from gentle to heavy. In Mothra the middle section is almost death metal-ish! The polymetric beats are awesome Submitted by Me (England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Crash Of '47
$9.55 Personnel: Tom Araya (vocals); Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King (guitar); Dave Lombardo (drums). Audio Mixer: Greg Fidelman. Editor: Dan Monti. Photographer: Andrew Stewart. Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's vocals ...

| | Rickie Lee Jones Balm In Gilead CD (2009)
Crash Of '47
$14.30 Lyricist: Rickie Lee Jones. Audio Mixer: Rob Schnapf. Photographer: Rickie Lee Jones. Captain Beefheart was known to playfully admonish fans shouting out requests at his shows by saying, "You know I'm gonna do exactly what I want." No one has documented Rickie Lee Jones saying the same thing, but in the course of a recording career that's just entered its third decade, she's made it clear that she shares the same philosophy, and she's bravely followed her muse wherever it chooses to go, rather than rehashing the sound and style of RICCKIE LEE JONES and PIRATES, the acclaimed early ...

Crash Of '47
$11.85 Johnny Crawford began his prolific career in 1955 as a first-generation Mouseketeer, and by the end of the decade he was playing Mark McCain on the weekly Western drama The Rifleman. During the show's fourth season Crawford explored an alternate vocation, eventually cutting three LPs for the indie Del-Fi label. His second outing, 1962's A Young Man's Fancy, offers another 11 selections in much the same fashion as his debut, The Captivating Johnny Crawford, released earlier that year. ...
