King Kong Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) a great classic A Classic movie great for the whole family! Submitted by moonhowler7472 (columbus,in,usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
King Kong (new version) The original storyline was kept intact and this really helped keep the original intent and provide some realism. The special effects were ahead of their time and the acting was very good. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anybody that likes sci-fi. a completely different film This movie is worth watching, yes, but far less entertaining than the original. The 1933 version was a lot less focused on the love story aspect and a lot more focused on giant dinosaurs wrestling giant apes. The 1933 version also had rather impressive special effects, at least 20 years ahead of it's time. If you are looking for some classic style monster fighting I'd recomend the original, for a movie that may make you cry, check out this version. King Kong video
$12.95 For his fourth directorial feature in the span of two years, Clint Eastwood tells the story of a grizzled Korean War vet's reluctant friendship with a Hmong teenage boy and his immigrant family. Set in contemporary Detroit, GRAN TORINO tackles the shifting cultural and economic landscape of not only the Motor City, but America as well. Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, an unabashed bigot who never heard a racial insult he didn't love. Bitter, haunted, and full of pride, Walt refuses to abandon the neighborhood he's lived in for decades despite its changing demographics as he clings desperately to a mindset long since out of step with the times. When his Hmong neighbor Thao tries to steal his prized muscle car as part of a gang initiation, Walt is forced to grapple with the world around him.
GRAN TORINO's approach to the complicated issue of race relations is equal parts Archie Bunker and CRASH. That is to say, there is nothing subtle about Walt's bigotry, yet his misanthropy knows no bounds, and Eastwood does a remarkable job of finding the humor in Walt's equal opportunity racism. More than simply a racial morality tale, however, GRAN TORINO is about the unlikely bonds that people form to navigate the subtle complexities every day life. Like MILLION DOLLAR BABY, GRAN TORINO explores the challenging yet rich new world that can open up when individuals let down their guard, even if for just a moment. Estranged from his family and his church, and without any sense of personal peace, Walt offers all that he has to Thao and his family, namely wisdom and protection. When tragedy strikes the family, Eastwood allows a little classic Harry Callahan to poke through, but the surprising finale posits a hero that Dirty Harry would never have the guts to be. It's ...

King Kong film
$10.49 In this highly entertaining, beautifully photographed rekindling of the classic French novel by Alexandre Dumas, director Kevin Reynolds choreographs a fantastic adventure replete with breathtaking scenery, fiery swashbuckling battles, lavish costumes, and, above all else, sweet revenge. In 19th-century Marseille, Edmond Dantès (Jim Caviezel) is the optimistic but uneducated son of a sea captain. He cherishes his friendship with the son of a count, Mondego (Guy Pearce), and is deeply in love with his fiancée, Mercedes (Dagmara Dominczyk). Young Dantès is so innocent and naive that it is positively shocking when Mondego turns on him, accusing him of treason, and having him sentenced to life in the dreary dungeon of Chateau D'If. Years of isolation and torture nearly defeat the revenge-thirsty Dantès, but with the help of invaluable lessons from the Abbé Faria (Richard Harris), his luck slowly changes. An incredible prison break starts Dantès on his way to a new life, and from there Reynolds' COUNT truly takes off. Battles with pirates lead to hunts for sunken ocean treasure, and soon Dantes is living in Marseille as the transformed, newly rich, self-proclaimed Count of Monte Cristo. Installed in a ritzy chateau, he slowly unfurls his excrutiatingly careful plans to exact his revenge on Mondego and all those who ever wronged him.
Dagmara Dominczyk, Guy Pearce, James Frain, Jim Caviezel, Luis Guzman, Richard Harris - Director: Kevin Reynolds "The Count of Monte Cristo" is Alexandre Dumas' classic story of an innocent man wrongly but deliberately imprisoned and his brilliant strategy for revenge against those who betrayed him. Edmond Dantes' (Jim Caviezel) life and plans to marry the ...

King Kong DVD
$22.45 Based around a 19th century poem by Adam Mickiewicz, PAN TADEUSZ is set in Lithuania, and details an epic feud between two families. Directed by Andrzej Wajda (HUNTING FLIES) the two families in question are of Polish descent, but living under stern Russian rule. With Napoleon threatening to invade, the action unfolds in an extremely historic time, while the personal angle to the story proves to be every bit as absorbing as the major events surrounding it.

| | D.H. Lawrence: The Rainbow/The Widowing Of Mrs. Holroyd DVD (1988) Full Frame; Subtitled
King Kong video
$10.75 Scandalous in his own time, D.H. Lawrence came to be regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English literature. Tracing the toll of repressed desires and social conformity, these adaptations of THE RAINBOW and THE WIDOWING OF MRS. HOLROYD offer marvelous interpretations of Lawrence's works. THE RAINBOW tells the story of a young woman's sexual coming-of-age; THE WIDOWING OF MRS. HOLROYD (starring Colin Firth) is about a woman in a troubled marriage who makes a wish that has deadly consequences.
D.H. Lawrence's works portray the brutal side of industrialization. Lawrence's women are put upon by 'vulgar, low-minded brutes' who stagger home drunk from the pit, lay about them with their fists, and occasionally bring the odd trollop into the house. In The Widowing of Mrs. Holroyd, Lizzie Holroyd (Zoe Wanamaker) and her boorish ...

$46.89 The town of Smallville is mostly inhabited by ordinary folk looking to live a peaceful life. But among their number is Clark Kent (Tom Welling), the future Superman who faces a daily struggle to control his special powers and keep his true identity a secret. This seventh season of SMALLVILLE offers plenty of surprises for the young Man of Steel, plumbing the vast store of Superman mythology to introduce two characters from the comic books: Clack's cousin Kara (Laura Vandervoort), also known as Supergirl; and Bizarro, an evil Clark Kent look-alike. Meanwhile, as Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) becomes infatuated with Kara, Clark comes ever closer to the truth about his parents and his home planet Krypton. Included here are all 22 episodes of the seventh season, including a guest appearance by Dean Cain.
There are two Clark Kents. One is the young man whose life in a tiny Kansas town sets him on destiny's path. The other is a Bizarro who shares Clark's DNA but not his values. Only one of them can survive. Superman mythology grows deeper and more powerful in an event-packed season that includes the arrival of Clark's cousin, Kara/Supergirl. Keep a low profile and master your powers, Clark says. Kara has other ideas. Plus: Lana Lang might prefer Bizarro to the real deal. Lois Lane makes a career leap. $10.29 Martial arts superstar Jet Li reteams with French writer-director Luc Besson (KISS OF THE DRAGON) in this psychological action film shot in Glasgow, Scotland. Li stars as Danny, a human attack dog for a powerful mobster he calls Uncle Bart (Bob Hoskins, looking resplendent in white suit after white suit). When Bart and his men go out on their collection runs, they bring Danny, who has been trained since he was a child to fight to kill. When Bart takes Danny's collar off and commands, "Get 'im," Danny goes to work, an unstoppable machine, using the only weapon he knows: his body. But when a turf war ends up in bloody carnage, Danny escapes and is taken in by a kind family consisting of blind piano tuner Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his teenage stepdaughter, Victoria (Kerry Condon). They teach Danny how to be a real person, to be able to act civilly in society. They also allow Danny to explore his love of the piano, where a specific tune haunts him, bringing up repressed memories from his long-ago past. Just when Danny thinks he has escaped from his former life, he is pulled back in, but he is no longer the trained dog Bart thinks he is. Written by Besson and directed by Louis Letterier (THE TRANSPORTER), UNLEASHED is a gripping, heart-wrenching film fueled by the music of Massive Attack and a relentless visual style. And having taken acting lessons for the first time in his career, Li more than holds his own in the presence of such masters as Hoskins and Freeman.
