Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles Based on actual events, this film takes place in 1879 at Africa's Roarke's Drift, a military post occupied by 97 British soldiers. The Englishmen receive word that they are about to be besieged by 4,000 Zulu warriors armed with spears and even rifles. The soldiers stay and fight the warriors, desperately using everything they can find to withstand the onslaught. Based on an actual historic event, this is the story of a group of British soldiers stationed in Africa who are forced to defend their tiny outpost against an attack by powerful Zulu warriors. They are outnumbered 40-1 but are still ready to fight to the finish. Michael Caine is outstanding in Cy Endfield's powerful drama. Narrated by Richard Burton. Zulu Movie Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Best line in the film-- Lots of claptrap about this film--boy soldier theorising about tactics and history. Most revealing line about the theme of this film is "Because we're here, lad". No politics, no grand sermons. The soldiers fight, kill and die because they are there. bravery is eternal! This film is about the Zulu wars against Britian in 1879. It concerns a small force of English soldiers who triumph in the face of almost certain death. Shot in the days of real human actors and not computer generated pixels, this film makes you blood run cold as the Zulus attack. Also Micheal Caine plays an awesome role as a British Officer with major attitude! Historical, bloody and action packed, what more could a good war movie offer? ZULU - A Leason In Leadership ZULU is one of the most accurate war movies ever made. It is a factural account of the January 1879 Battle of Rorke's Driff in Natal Provence South Africa. The Battle occurs just after 1500 British soldiers, with modern rifles and canon were defeated on the slopes of Mount Isandhlwana by 10,000 Zulu wars. The move covers the next two days, when 5,000 Zulu attacked the small missionary station at Rork's Driff. A defensive force of 87 British soldiers hold off the Zulu, killing over 400 and losing only 17. This movie goes to the actual battle site and reinacts the battle in the finest detail. This move should be on any Military History list of "must have" movies. The film is the first staring role for Michael Caine. Submitted by a reviewer (Washington DC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Super Movie The Zulus are amazing. Their filmed historical tribal group marriage ceremony is documentary stuff. The Afrikaner, Brits, and Welsh are amazing in their correct, historical roles. You get a good mix of different personalities between officers and noncoms. The Preacher is amazing in losing faith upon impending doom. Very Shakespearian. I can't imagine anyone doing it better. Worth an Oscar! The British defensive battle tactics are amazing and what's more, they worked in real life! They're mechanically super efficient and intense. The musical score is amazing. Fits perfectly! The Zulus were great warriors and their main battle plan contains strategies that could be used tomorrow. But, because the British didn't fall for the Zulus traps, defensible, superior, organized firepower eventually changed the Zulus minds about continuing the fight, as tribal male suicide became a less than appealling idea. But, you have to admire them anyway. They could have kept on coming and perhaps, through more imaginative multiple tactics, won. Though, still at a terrific cost.
However, they didn't.
I've seen this move on TV several times plus the 6 - 8 times or so from a copy which I recorded on VHS tape. The tape slowly degraded though it's still viewable. Now I have a clear DVD version. Super!
If you like movies where the supposed underdog is going to lose but doesn't, put this one in your DVD player and then on your shelf or in your rack. Submitted by a reviewer (Knoxville, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Zulu review
$10.75 ZULU DAWN depicts the bloody Battle of Isandhlwana, in which 30,000 Zulu warriors wiped out nearly 1,500 British troops stationed in Natal. The film focuses most sharply on the preparations for battle and the political situation in the region at that time. Taking Zulu chief Cetshwayo's defiant stance on tribal customs as a declaration of war, General Lord Chelmsford sends in hundreds of British troops in order to squash the spear-carrying Africans with superior fire power. The sheer number of Zulus, however, overwhelms the British infantry.
A prequel to the war epic Zulu, this dramatic story recounts the breathtaking defeat of British forces at the hands of a 25,000-strong and relentlessly-determined Zulu army in 1870. The all-star cast and extravagant production quality amke this film a spectacular film with a guaranteed place in the list of Hollywood greats. Burt Lancaster, Peter O'Toole, Sir John Mills, and Bob Hoskins star.

$9.29 The hapless Smuntz brothers are delighted to discover that the ramshackle house they've inherited from their father is actually a long-forgotten, neglected architectural treasure worth millions. But auctioning the dwelling proves complicated when the house's current resident, an intrepid field mouse, balks at their attempts to evict him. A fierce turf war breaks out, but the real winner is Christopher Walken, who walks off with the movie in a bit as a sadistic exterminator. A symphony of slapstick, conducted with both animatronic and live mice by debut director Verbinski, heretofore best known for creating the "Budweiser" frogs.
