It is almost 10 years since one of rock’s most accomplished composers passed away. Frank Zappa, a man whose music paid homage to contemporary classical figures such as Stravinsky and Stockhausen, as well as late-'50s doo-wop and the guitar-heavy rock that dominated pop in the '70s. Zappa was a satirist with a wicked sense of humour and lyrics of questionable taste, but he was also one of the most prolific artists of his time, recording about 50 albums during his 40 years in music. ‘Does Humour Belong In Music’ is taken from a live recording of Zappa’s planned final tour in 1984 and was originally released on VHS in 1985. Frank Zappa paved the way for future generations of avant garde musicians with his angular interpretation of rock 'n' roll. Influenced by a diverse array of artists (everything from Buddy Holly to Stockhausen), Zappa had an eye for perverse, offbeat and humorous lyrics, in tandem with off-kilter melodies and theatrical concert performances. DOES HUMOUR BELONG IN MUSIC? is a perfect example of Zappa's zany stagecraft, taken from his 1984 tour. Frank Zappa - Does Humour Belong In Music? Movie Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Too Much Talking The one thing that distracts from concert videos is diverting from the performance to chat with the artist. This DVD has plenty of it. You are enjoying the show when down goes the music and here's Frank talking about why his music is relevant. As vital as this information may be, it should have been presented as a special feature after the show was over.
The overall performance and sound quality of this DVD are fine but there is a real feeling of loss of continuity of the concert with the interuptions. Buyer Beware!! Submitted by rbogle56 (Middleburg, FL , USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Bummer Actually an excellent performance. Too much interruption by interviews. They ought to always be at the end.
Overall we don't have enough content here to justify the price. This video should've been at least ninety minutes.
I am sad to do this to one of the great musical geniuses legacy but...

Essential Zappa This DVD is very good at showing the wide range of musical abilities of Frank Zappa's mind. Even though it is later in his career and he only palys guitar a few times, the times he does play are intricant transcendent jams. Definetely pick this up if you are a Zappa fan or a newbie. $22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from London's Royal Albert Hall in January 1970, London's Earls Court in May 1975, Knebworth in ...

Frank Zappa - Does Humour Belong In Music? movie DVD
$11.49 Starting in 1974 and continuing for nearly a decade, Frank Zappa's annual Halloween concerts were a New York City institution. When the avant-rocker scored a Top 40 hit with "Valley Girl" in 1982, he skipped that year's Halloween performance and instead chose to premiere a 90-minute documentary called FRANK ZAPPA'S DUB ROOM at New York's Ritz Theater. Produced, directed, written, conducted, composed, arranged, and performed by Zappa, the documentary was comprised of two concerts--the 1981 Halloween show at the Palladium, and the December 1974 KCET television special, A TOKEN OF HIS EXTREME--as well as animation by claymation artist ...
