Prepare to enter the Sixth Dimension, a deliriously insane world of frog butlers, topless princesses, machine-gun toting teachers, chicken boys, human chandeliers, and the devil himself (Danny Elfman), all ruled by the lascivious midget King Fausto (Herve Villechaize - Tattoo on Fantasy Island) and his deranged Queen (Susan Tyrrell - Andy Warhol's Bad). A feast of visual and aural delights, reaching new found heights of insanity, invention, and questionable taste, and propelled by the incredible songs of the one and only Danny Elfman. An all-time classic of the underground cinema, featuring original music by Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman (PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, BATMAN), FORBIDDEN ZONE must be seen to be believed. There is a mysterious but forbidden door in the basement of the Hercules family's new house in Venice, California; it doesn't take long for daughter Frenchy, returning home from her bizarro school that features a machine gun-toting teacher and a chicken boy, to succumb to temptation and open it. Becoming trapped in the Sixth Dimension, which is ruled by randy midget King Fausto who, as luck would have it, is looking for a new concubine, Frenchy catches the king's eye. Unfortunately she also incurs the jealous Queen Doris's wrath, and is imprisoned along with the ex-queen, who plots Doris's demise. While Frenchy's brother Flash and her Gramps endeavor to save her, a dancing frog, robot boxers, Oingo-Boingo, and Danny Elfman as Satan, all make their appearances in the Forbidden Zone.

fantastic this is great. great cult film!!!!! Submitted by elly (japan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The boys and I have been waiting to greet you! The ultimate in random, fantasy fun. It's all in black and white, anything happens, there are some supurb actors. The make-up is extreme, everyone's wearing it, there's some insane characters, like grunting boxers, a frog butler, a midget king, and oodles of others. The scene with Danny Elfman is WONDEFUL, he's a very musical Satan, singinf Squeezit (Minnie) the Moocher, too bad his firey red hair is stopped by black and white.
This movie is delightful and oh-so random, with a hyperkinetic score. Submitted by burtonhead (Middle, OF, Nowhere) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Forbidden Zone review
$17.39 At last a 'proper' CD re-issue for 999's legendary debut album which includes the singles "Me And My Desire", "Emergency", "I'm Alive" and the quite brilliant "Nasty Nasty". Sleeve notes and a full set of lyrics are all part of the packaging for this album that really should be an integral part of everyone's collection.
Liner Note Author: Mark Brennan . A truly neglected classic, 999's eponymous debut album was issued in March, 1978, on the back of three stunning 45s -- the romping "I'm Alive," the anthemic "Nasty Nasty," and the oddly ambitious "Me and My Desire." The first and last of these appeared on the album, together with the summer smash that never was, June, 1978's, "Emergency," and it is with these tracks as its benchmarks that 999 should be judged. A ferocious live band, the group harnessed every iota of their stage performance for the studio, turning in an album that zips past at the speed of light, in a blur of chant-worthy choruses and pogo-able riffs; even better, three bonus tracks round up the absent "Nasty Nasty" 45, plus a pair of period B-sides, to deliver a picture perfect portrait of 999's first year. There would, of course, be many more to come. ~ Dave Thompson A truly neglected classic, 999's eponymous debut album was issued in March, ...

$10.85 Francine Fishpaw (Divine) is a troubled housewife trapped in suburban Baltimore. Her household is a disaster--her husband is the philandering proprietor of a sleazy movie theater, her daughter performs lewd dances in her high school cafeteria for money, her son is a predatory foot fetishist, and the family pet is suicidal. After she hits alcoholic rock bottom, along comes Todd Tomorrow (Tab Hunter), a dreamboat who runs an art-house drive-in theater. But is he really as angelic as he seems? Francine may require the help of her eccentric nouveau riche best friend, Cuddles (Edith Massey), to discover the truth.
Inspired by soap operas and weepy 1950s melodramas, John Waters combines the conventions of that genre (soft lighting, teary organ music) with William ...

Forbidden Zone movie DVD
$11.09 Hollywood's tradition of remaking classic movies continues with this 21st-century updating of the 1976 romp, THE BAD NEWS BEARS. Acclaimed director Richard Linklater (THE SCHOOL OF ROCK, DAZED AND CONFUSED) pays respect to Michael Ritchie's original film by updating it rather than reinventing it. Stepping into the tough-to-fill shoes of Walter Matthau, Billy Bob Thornton plays the liquor-swilling, foulmouthed Morris Buttermaker, who has agreed to coach a Little League team for the paycheck. Unfortunately for him, his assembled team consists of the league's most inept outcasts. Gradually, however, Buttermaker's determination wins out, to the point where he recruits an ex-girlfriend's gifted daughter, Amanda Whurlitzer (Sammi Kane Kraft), to step onto the pitcher's mound. The team is complete when local bad boy Kelly Leak (Jeffrey Davies) lends his overflowing talent to the cause. Soon, the Bears are climbing their way to the top of the standings, resulting in a championship showdown with the Yankees, who are managed by the ridiculously pompous Coach Bullock (Greg Kinnear).
As with 2003's THE SCHOOL OF ROCK, Linklater proves he has an uncanny ability to draw out compelling performances from child ...

$10.49 Actor-director Robert Townsend came to fame depicting the pitfalls of the Hollywood experience for black actors with his 1987 film HOLLYWOOD SHUFFLE. Four years later, he took on the mid-'60s music scene with THE FIVE HEARTBEATS. After doing extensive research with long-lived pop/R&B group the Dells, he painted a cinematic scene of five young friends in the 60s who share the dream of making music. They journey together through three decades, experiencing all the ups and downs show business had to offer, intensified by the difficulties faces by black acts in the era of civil-rights protest. Interacting as everything from a close-knit musical family to occasional bitter rivals, the fictional ...
