Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French Nick Hornby's popular novel makes the shift from London to Chicago in this Hollywood adaptation from the writing team responsible for GROSSE POINT BLANK. John Cusack stars as Rob, a thirtysomething record store owner who searches for the answer to the seemingly impossible question: Does he listen to pop music because he feels miserable, or is the music the cause of his misery? As he humorously deals with his store's pathetic employees (Jack Black and Todd Louiso), he embarks on a mission to track down his Top Five Worst Breakups to discover where things went wrong between himself and his girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle). Given director Stephen Frears's sure hand and Cusack's strong lead performance, HIGH FIDELITY is a funny and compelling look at growing up and falling in love. A male-perspective confessional about being an adult--but not acting like one--HIGH FIDELITY is the story of Rob Gordon (John Cusack), the thirtysomething owner of Championship Vinyl, a record store in the suburbs of Chicago. Rob is in the throes of a difficult breakup with his girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle), and he creates a list of the ex-girlfriends who qualify as his Top Five Worst Breakups, then tracks them down one by one. At work, Rob's relationship with the geeky guys who help run the store, Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black), is hilarious and juvenile: The three espouse encyclopedic knowledge of records while making lists of everything from the Top Five Side 1s and Track 1s to the Top Five Songs About Death. Director Stephen Frears works from a script based on the 1996 Nick Hornby novel of the same title, adapted by D.V. DeVincentis, Steve Pink, Cusack, and Scott Rosenberg. Frears integrates Cusack's signature goofball antics and gives him a series of talk-to-the-camera, Ferris Bueller-style monologues that Cusack delivers with personal ingenuity. John Cusack and director Stephen Frears previously worked together on THE GRIFTERS.
Jack Black, who plays Barry, is the lead singer of the band Tenacious D.
Vintage Vinyl, a record store mentioned in the film, is a real store in Evaston, IL, John Cusack's hometown.
Bruce Springsteen makes a surprise cameo in the film as himself.
Roger Ebert (EBERT AND ROEPER AND THE MOVIES) and Desson Howe of the Washington Post named HIGH FIDELITY one of the 10 best films of 2000.
John Cusack was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture--Musical or Comedy. High Fidelity Quotes/Excerpts: "Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable? Or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?"--Rob (John Cusack), in voice-over

High Fidelity Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) great loved it. I really love this movie. That was great. Submitted by kmccoy (cayucos, ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Vintage Vinyl This movie has all the important ingredients of a future classic. Great characters, story line(s), Acters, Great location (Chicago), Script. The record store scenes took me back to high school, totally 80's. The last decade of vinyl, miss those LP's. The soundtrack is awesome as well. Jack Black makes every second count in this movie. I highly recommend it. Miss you Alda! Submitted by Scott (Olympia, Wa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
You know who you are ... For anyone who ever spent hours upon hours flipping through record bins at the local record specialty store (you know who you are...), this movie will hit the target. What a fantastic flashback to those days of making "specialty mix" tapes for those special occasions or persons. The scenes in the record shop are priceless. Jack Black is fantastic as the psycho record store clerk. There are several story lines to ponder, but the record store is enough for me. Get this movie. It's a real treat. From the guys who brought you GROSSE POINTE BLANK comes the absolutely hilarious HIGH FIDELITY. John Cusack (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) stars as Rob Gordon, the owner of a semi-failing record store located on one of the back streets of Chicago. He sells music the old-fashioned way -- on vinyl, with two wacky clerks, the hysterically funny rock snob Barry (Jack Black) and the more quietly opinionated underachiever Dick (Todd Luiso). But Rob's business isn't the only thing in his life that's floundering -- his needle skips the love groove when his longtime girlfriend Laura (newcomer Iben Hjejle) walks out on him. And this forces him to examine his past failed attempts at romance the only way he knows how! For a rocking fun time, give HIGH FIDELITY a spin. It's sure to make your all-time top five list for comedies -- with a bullet.

| | How The Grinch Stole Christmas DVD (2000) Widescreen
High Fidelity movie DVD
$13.59 Director Ron Howard casts comedian Jim Carrey in the title role in this live-action adaptation of the famous Christmas tale by Dr. Seuss, giving this rendition of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS a delightfully manic spin. Carrey is virtually unrecognizable in his elaborate green makeup, but his anarchic comic touch is unmistakable. He manages to fully embody the grumpy title character, while still supplying his own comedic touches, and it is his performance that makes the film a treat for adults and children alike. The candy-colored set design for the town of Whoville and the jubilant score contribute to the overall feeling of innocuous fantasy that the Grinch disrupts with his dastardly deeds. The familiar story of the Grinch stealing every present in town on Christmas Eve has been expanded to incorporate flashbacks to the Grinch's childhood, which serve to explain his hostility toward the Whos. As Cindy Lou-Who, a little girl so sweet she sees goodness even in the Grinch, young Taylor Momsen strikes just the right note of adorable ingenuousness. Howard gets the performance the film needs from her, as her character makes the Grinch's eventual change of heart both believable and touching.
