There, Sara's imagination and gift for storytelling win over the other students -- but not the stern Miss Minchin, who immediately bans all make-believe on campus. However, Sara continues to tell her exotic tales late into the night, when the cranky headmistress is fast asleep.
Then, one day, Miss Minchin coldly informs Sara that her father died in battle, and that the only way she can keep a roof over her head is to work as a servant. Sara loses her beautiful room and her fine possessions and moves into the cold, dark attic. But even as she scrubs the toilets and mops the floors, little Sara Crewe holds firmly to her belief that her father is still alive... and she'll do anything, even risk Miss Minchin's wrath, to discover the truth. An engaging version of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic tale of a girl who's sent to a boarding school in New York when her father must serve in World War I. The young girl learns that, despite the treatment she receives from a strict headmistress, she'll always be a princess. Remake of the 1939 film "The Little Princess."

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association awarded Patrick Doyle the best music prize and Bo Welch the best production design prize for 1995. Director Alfonso Cuaron received the Association's new generation award. The film itself was the runner-up for best picture.

John Waters follows 1998's benevolently vulgar PECKER with this reactionary story of another young artist. Cecil (Stephen Dorff) is a radical young (and arguably insane) filmmaker whose motive for creating his art stems from a violent dissatisfaction with the pandering product produced by Hollywood. Cecil and his gang of film terrorists, the Sprocket Holes (who each has a tattoo of the name of their favorite director), kidnap spoiled superstar Honey Whitlock (Melanie Griffith) at the Baltimore premiere of her new film with the intention of forcing her to star in their antistudio opus RAVING BEAUTY. When Honey sees the street credibility she gets from her association with Cecil's terrorist antics, however, she no longer has to be forced to participate in the Sprocket Holes' outlandish schemes.

Winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival, Jafar Panahi's OFFSIDE is a poignant yet playful look at the continued sublimation of women in Iran. Sima Mobarak Shahi stars as a young girl desperate to attend a World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Bahrain in a Tehran stadium; unfortunately, it has been illegal for women to attend sporting events in her country since the 1979 revolution. Dressing up as a boy, she sneaks in but is eventually caught and imprisoned in a makeshift holding pen monitored by a small group of soldiers. She is joined in the pen by other girls (Shayesteh Irani, Ida Sadeghi, Golnaz Farmani, Mahnaz Zabihi, and Nazanin Sedighzadeh) who also attempted to watch the match. As the game goes on and the girls beg the soldiers--most of whom would rather be elsewhere themselves--for updates, the social ills of Iran become a dangerous topic of conversation, especially regarding the fate of the women, which could mean further imprisonment in a real jail, potential exile, or fatal beatings from their family. Each girl and soldier represents a different part of the fabric of Iranian culture, giving a wide-ranging view of what life there is like. Panahi (THE CIRCLE, THE WHITE BALLOON) made OFFSIDE during an actual soccer match, misleading the government on what the film was about in order to receive a permit. ...
