Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re Academy Award-winning director Michael Moore examines the Bush administration's financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family in FAHRENHEIT 9/11, a well-researched, fast-paced, highly controversial, and important documentary that won the Palme d'Or at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Using actual footage and declassified documents, Moore takes a detailed look into political events both before and after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, beginning with the polarizing Supreme Court decision that ultimately gave the state of Florida and the 2000 election to George W. Bush. Moore reveals how the U.S. government helped the bin Laden family return to Saudi Arabia immediately after September 11, when all other flights were still grounded; and examines military recruiting techniques in such poor areas as his own hometown of Flint, Michigan. He even attempts to get congressmen to enlist their own sons and daughters into the military. The writer-director also visits with the troops, including at a VA hospital where soldiers are having second thoughts about America's involvement in Iraq, and spends time with a family whose eldest son is fighting in Iraq. FAHRENHEIT 9/11 is a worthy successor to Moore's previous documentaries, ROGER & ME, THE BIG ONE, and BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, once again shining a light on the past, present, and future of the US. Theatrical Release Date: June 25, 2004 Fahrenheit 9/11 Reviews: "Moore has marshaled what's on the record and off into a stinging indictment of where we're going."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone "[A] potent and infuriating fight-the-power documentary..."
-- Owen Glieberman, Entertainment Weekly "[An] authentic and indispensable document of its time..."
-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "Moore is grass-roots politics' own gorilla film-maker, an instantly recognisable gadfly guru..."
-- Leslie Felperin, Uncut "It rockets through the thickest of geo-politics, stopping for snapshots from this angle and that, leaving in its wake a bracingly kinetic portrait of an atavistic fool."

Fahrenheit 9/11 review
$10.49 Allen and Albert Hughes, best known for their work as feature-film directors (MENACE II SOCIETY, DEAD PRESIDENTS), present this revealing documentary that focuses on the myths and realities associated with the black urban pimp. Featuring rare, candid interviews with actual pimps, the film contains a brutal honesty that makes for quite an enlightening viewing experience. As they have done with their previous work, the Hughes brothers pull no punches in bringing their subject matter to the screen. AMERICAN PIMP is at once an important historical document and an entertaining documentary.

$19.97 With OUTRAGE, provocative documentarian Kirby Dick (THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED) confronts his most controversial topic yet. In his latest piece of cine-journalism, Dick exposes what he deems to be the rampant, hypocritical homophobia that exists in an American government that is, in fact, teeming with closeted homosexuals. Dick brings an impassioned and well-reasoned eye to his material, which should have viewers on the more conservative side of the fence paying closer attention than they would have had he taken a more blustery approach. As it stands, OUTRAGE is an illuminating, stirring call to arms. Dick interviews the political community’s most prominent gay figures--including former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey and Congressman Barney Frank--as well as many others (radio DJ Michelangelo Signorile, blogger Michael Rogers, and writer/activist Larry Kramer), who share their own thoughtful insights into just how deeply the personal and political corruption runs. In what is clearly the most controversial aspect of the film, Dick makes a case for the homosexuality of several politicians who continue to deny it (most notably, former Idaho senator Larry Craig and current Florida governor Charlie Crist). But OUTRAGE is by no means a finger-wagging witch-hunt--Dick’s intention is not to ruin the life of anyone. Like McGreevey, who lived through his own personal years of torment, he believes that everyone would be better off if they acknowledged who they are, in public and in private.

$18.45 Two San Francisco-based filmmakers take a look at the city 12 years after a plague wiped most of the population off the face of the planet in this low budget sci-fi feature.
One of the odder visions of a post-apocalyptic America, this low-budge film is comprised of interviews with the survivors of a plague that has ravaged the country and left the San Francisco Bay area with only 186 inhabitants. The interviews are laid back - 2 chuckling young men refer to themselves as 'slackers,' in this mellow sci-fi saga.
| | American Cultural History - African American DVD (1930)
Fahrenheit 9/11 movie DVD
$12.29 The promotional and educational films in this collection were created between the years of 1930 and 1971. Produced by the U.S. Federal Works Agency, the documentary "We Work Again" looks at how the New Deal affected African Americans in Depression-era America. The next film, "Negro Colleges in Wartime," was the U.S. Office of War Information's attempt to show that African Americans were receiving equal education to white students of the same era. Next, "The Plantation System in Southern Life" provides an outlet into how life was lived on Southern plantations around the time of the civil war. Set in the Gainesville sector of Georgia, "Palmour Street" explores the home dynamics of several African American families. The next film, "Teddy," goes inside the head of one particular African American youth in order to see how that era's events were shaping the attitudes of the young.

| | Blood Of A Poet DVD (2008) (Import)
Fahrenheit 9/11 video
$11.65 NTSC/Region 0. A young poet in a room sketching a series of faces is shocked when the mouth of one of the faces comes alive. The poet rubs off the mouth on to his hand. After an erotic interlude with the transplanted mouth, the young poet wipes the mouth on to a statue, which then comes to life and forces the poet to walk within a mirror in the room, which leads to the corridor of a mysterious hotel. After witnessing a number of shocking scenes in the hotel, the poet is forced to commit ritual suicide. Crowned in laurel leaves, the now resurrected poet flees the mirror, destroys the statue, and becomes a statue himself. In a courtyard, a group of schoolboys stage a snowball fight. One of the boys is killed with a snowball which has a rock hidden in its center. The poet, now a society cardsharp, plays a game of cards in which he cheats and loses. In disgrace, he again shoots himself in the head. A glittering group of celebrities watch these events, and applaud the suicide. The woman with whom he had been playing tears up the cards, leaves the courtyard, and is finally seen in an improvised coffin, residing in the state of the "mortal tedium of immortality."
