Personnel: Ted Nugent (vocals, guitar, bass); Derek St. Holmes (vocals, guitar); Meat Loaf (vocals); Steve McRay (keyboards, background vocals); Rob Grange (bass); Cliff Davies (drums, percussion, background vocals); Tom Werman (percussion).
Producers: Tom Werman, Cliff Davies, Lew Futterman.
Reissue producer: Bruce Dickinson.
Recorded at the Sound Pit, Atlanta, Georgia. Includes liner notes by Gary Graff.
Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
While Ted Nugent's second solo album, 1976's Free-for-All, was another raging slab of rock & roll, it wasn't quite as consistent as his self-titled debut. The main reason was due to singer/rhythm guitarist Derek St. Holmes' departure from the band just as recording of the album began (due to constant grappling with the Nuge about certain musical issues). To solve the problem, producer Tom Werman convinced a then-unknown singer by the name of Meat Loaf to handle the vocal chores on the songs Derek was going to sing. While it seems like a mismatch in theory, the results were not catastrophic -- such rockers as "Writing on the Wall" (a virtual rewrite of "Stranglehold"), "Street Rats," and "Hammerdown" are classic Nuge stompers. But they would have been stronger with St. Holmes' contributions, as evidenced by a bonus outtake of "Street Rats" with St. Holmes on vocals and the turbo-charged "Turn It Up." But still, the title track is one of Ted's all-time best (featuring a downright vicious groove), as is the rocking tale about the 1967 Detroit riots, "Dog Eat Dog." Despite St. Holmes' absence (he would return in time for the album's subsequent tour), Free-for-All solidified Ted's commercial success, reaching the Top 25. [Note: As with Nugent's other 1999 reissues, an insightful essay on this Ted era by journalist Gary Graff is included, plus bonus tracks.] ~ Greg Prato
After the commercial success of TED NUGENT, the wildman guitarist decided to stick to his same brand of energized hard rock. Consistency paid of as FREE FOR ALL became his first platinum record. But all was not well in the Nugent camp. During the sessions, vocalist Derek St. Holmes left the band due to "creative differences." Although St. Holmes would rejoin the band after the album's release, future superstar Meat Loaf was brought in to sing.
The lasciviously suggestive "Free for All" earned some decent FM airplay thanks to Tom Werman's slick production. Meat Loaf's theatrical vocals work well on "Writing on the Wall." St. Holmes does manage to sing on two songs: "Turn It Up," a great slab of Detroit heavy metal and on an alternate version of "Street Rats" (a bonus track included on this reissue). "Together" slows things down and features Steve McKray on keyboards and a soulful performance by Mr. Loaf. On the contrary, "Hammerdown" is probably the heaviest tune Meat has ever sung. FREE FOR ALL is a great rock & roll party record.

5 stars The BEST Ted album!
6/6/07 This was my all time favorite album from Uncle Ted. The vocals on the tracks with Meatloaf are great. If you are a Meatloaf fan, this would be a good one to add to your collection.

5 stars Amazing album
You know, I first heard this on cassette tape when I was very young, even though it had already been released probably 20 years before i even heard it, and the songs have always stuck with me...So since I finally found that they remastered it, I figured I might as well go ahead and get it, and it is an amazing cd...Not one filler track on the whole album...Dog Eat Dog is probably one of the best songs the Nuge has ever done...Do yourself a favor and pick up this gem!

5 stars Second Great Nugent Album In A Row
FREE FOR ALL is the second great Ted Nugent album in a row. The songs are all strong, the guitar playing is hot, and Ted's straight-ahead hard rock songs keep Meat Loaf's tendency towards excessive theatrics in check. This album is another testament to the creative benefits of sobriety.

4 stars Tasty guitar!
Just straight ahead rock 'n' roll, this cd is fun to listen to. If you love a rockin guitar, you're going to like this. Don't expect brilliant lyrics, but that's not what we come to Nugent for! I'd say it's one of his top three best albums.

The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but ...

Live Recording Alice In Chains: Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell (vocals, guitar); Michael Starr (bass); Sean Kinney (drums).
Additional personnel: Tom Araya (background vocals).
Recorded in 1992.
Dirt is Alice in Chains' major artistic statement and the closest they ever came to recording a flat-out masterpiece. It's a primal, sickening howl from the depths of Layne Staley's heroin addiction, and one of the most harrowing concept albums ever recorded. Not every song on Dirt is explicitly about heroin, but Jerry Cantrell's solo-written contributions (nearly half the album) effectively maintain the thematic coherence -- nearly every song is imbued with the morbidity, self-disgust, and/or ...

Living Out Of Time
Robin Trower Living Out Of Time CD  (2004) (Import) Import; Remastered; United Kingdom

What a treat! Robin Trower has been keeping a low profile in recent years, but this CD should help raise that profile and bring him back into the ears of serious music fans. Features 11 tracks. Manhatton. 2005. Personnel: Robin Trower (guitar); Davey Pattison (vocals); Dave Bronze (bass); Pete Thompson (drums).
This album from American rocker Robin Trower features 11 tracks, including "What's Your Name," "Sweet Angel," and "Ain't Gonna Wait."
European reissue.
Guitarist extraordinaire Robin Trower has reassembled the core of his late-'80s band, once again joining forces with Dave Bronze (bass), Davey Pattison (vocals), and Pete Thompson (drums). On 2004's Living Out of Time, they equal (if not best) their work on 1987's Passion and 1988's Take What You Need with 11 sides that reconfirm Trower's breathtaking instrumental capacity, as well as his knack for writing heavy rockers that don't come off as trite or excessive. Selections such as the soulful "Please Tell Me" and the straight-ahead title track, "Living Out of Time," reiterate the decades of comparison between Trower and Jimi Hendrix, especially in the case of the former track, which oozes with the same primordial urgency that drove ...

Looking For You
Janine Davy Looking For You CD  (2006)

Free For All
CD $17.69  Audio Samples
Born and raised in Southern Maryland, Janine Davy seemed destined to express herself creatively. She was surrounded by music from the time she was born. Her Peabody-trained father was principle flutist with the United States Air Force Band and performed all over the world. Her mother, who sang like an angel and played piano, taught her children the joy of singing in harmony. Beginning with her first performance at the age of three, Janine progressed to a succession of musical instruments, including the guitar, flute, recorder and piano. It is her singing, though, that shows her passion and power. From ballads and folk standards, to sultry blues, to no-holds-barred rock and roll, Janine shows her vocal range and diversity in styling. While she dabbles in poetry and writing music for lyricists, Janine says her real joy is taking a song and making it her own. Janine's quest for musical perfection was accomplished by employing the much sought after talented gifts of two-time Emmy Award Winners Lenny Williams, a pianist and former member of the Eva Cassidy Band, Steve Steckler, a producer of works for MTV, National Geographic, Discovery and Chris Biondo, a producer, bassist and former member of the Eva Cassidy Band. Janine recruited other members from the Eva Cassidy Band, as well. Keith Grimes, who played bass and guitar, Raice McLeod, who played drums, were also members of her band. She also collaborated with Steven Digman. Steven is a songwriter and has had his songs recorded by Eva Cassidy, whose albums have reached gold and platinum status and Katie Melua, a four-time platinum artist from the UK. Other musicians contributing to the sounds of Janine's album include Keith Mitchell (Bass); David ...
