PARACHUTES won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
In 2000, a small wave of British pop bands clearly heavily influenced by Radiohead's brand of anthemic mope rock arose, with Travis, Muse, and Coldplay at the forefront. Coldplay are the most clearly Radiohead-like, compared to the poppier Travis and the more electronic-oriented Muse, and their US debut, the 10-song PARACHUTES, should appeal to any fans of OK COMPUTER or THE BENDS who found KID A too weird for their tastes. (Coldplay even swipe a song title, "Don't Panic," from Douglas Adams, as Radiohead did with "Paranoid Android.)
The soaring yet depressing single "Shiver" is a masterpiece of swelling emotion, and the fact that the other nine tracks, even the instrumental fragment of a title track, sound like variations on its theme is more a matter of conceptual and musical unity than a lack of ideas. This album deserves the hype it got on release.

A great place to start understanding the group This album, the debut of British Alt. Rock band Coldplay, is an acoustic masterpiece. Instead of drowning the songs with over-excessive electric guitars, acoustics are used in their place. The results are staggering, and they capture your attention. Sometimes, though, the songs get lost in their production, so some numbers blend together in the mind of the listener, but one does feel impressed by the group's musicality. The hit single, "Yellow", is the least effective of these numbers and will eventually be forgotten in favor of the rest of the album. This is the kind of album to play while you work on your schoolwork, or when you are in a similar stationary position. You can get lost in where the music takes you, but in an attractive way, a way that doesn't alienate you but still remains distinct and dramatic. Chris Martin's voice is very distinct, fitting the music and lyrics like a glove, probably inspiring Maroon 5's style of vocals. The only thing keeping this album from becoming one of the greatest albums period is that it stays soft when it could rock out. In favor of keeping the listener rapt in wandering attention, there are no dramatic shifts of style to different places. You end up in only one place instead of really going on one heck of a journey. But don't let that keep you from buying this album. If you love listening to music while working, this album will definitely be put on your list somewhere. Parachutes album
$11.19 Radiohead rebound from one-hit wonder status with this sophomore classic--the first to blueprint their operatic sonics.
On only their second outing Oxford's Radiohead fulfilled their huge potential, fashioning an album whose relentlessly downbeat tone was offset by an ability to formulate consistently winning melodies. The title track ...

Parachutes songs
$10.95 "Clocks" won the 2004 Grammy Award for Record Of The Year. A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. "In My Place" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
In 2000, Coldplay appeared seemingly out of nowhere and immediately advanced to the head of the Britpop class in the UK, while easily outdistancing the likes of Oasis and Blur in terms of US popularity. The most striking thing was that they did it with zero attitude and unassuming, melodic tunes humbly presented with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of memorability. That trend continues on the band's second album, A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD.
There's little stylistic alteration from PARACHUTES here, which is just fine, considering how enormously and instantly appealing that style is. While Travis, ...

Recorded in La Mesa, California. Includes liner notes by Deke Dickerson.
In this modern age filled with retro music, a new album from Deke Dickerson is a welcome spin in the CD player, indeed. Dickerson is nothing short of the reincarnation of Joe Maphis, right down to the double-necked Mosrite guitar and buck-toothed grin. Few modern guitar-slingers of the Stevie Ray Vaughan-abee variety would attempt the intricate minor-key picking of Maphis' "Rockin' Gypsy." But there's also a musical agenda and versatility at Dickerson's command that allows his music to embrace honky tonk ...

Parachutes music CDs
$29.79 Recorded between 1985 & 1998. Includes liner notes by Jaan Uhelszki.
Even if you accept that a best-of for Gregg Allman can focus wholly on his solo career (as this one does) and not include any of his work with the Allman Brothers, this could not by any stretch be considered "the best of Gregg Allman." It's really the best of what he's recorded for Sony, which is really an entirely different animal. That means there's nothing from his three 1970s albums, which most listeners would view as containing his best solo work; the chronological stretch on this comp only covers the last half of the 1980s and the 1990s. Like, say, Rod Stewart, this was a time in which his recordings had really only a shadow of their old power, although (like Stewart) his voice was still in good shape and he didn't stoop to levels ...
