With its pioneering "power groove" sound, Pantera leapt onto the metal scene of 1990 with the landmark album COWBOYS FROM HELL. The Texan band distinguished itself by offering up a potent mid-tempo version of the typically fast-paced thrash metal style, resulting in a dense, crushing sound that served as a solid foundation for Phil Anselmo's dynamic growl-to-a-falsetto-in-seconds-flat voice.
Although this collection only features five tracks from the early-'90s one-two punch of COWBOYS FROM HELL and VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER, it serves as a good introduction to the band's overall output. Pantera's career from the mid-'90s onward is represented by fierce tracks such as "I'm Broken," "Becoming," "5 Minutes Alone," and "I'll Cast a Shadow," as well as covers of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan" and Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever."

Great cd , Awesome bonus DVD Finally, The Best songs in the Pantera catalog came out in a special package, cd and bonus dvd. Pantera is one of the most influential real Metal bands out there, they were never a " trendy" band, and they always stayed true to their metal roots, and always improved the style of Thrash/speed/power groove kind of metal they created... Technically one of the best bands in the world , along with Metallica and Megadeth. Submitted by mick_coli (Veracruz, MEXico) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Reinventing Hell: The Best Of Pantera album
$16.45 The second volume of Suicidal's Friends and Family compilation series assembles more grooves from Suicidal Tendencies and its extended family. Kicking off with the title track to ST's Free Your Soul...And Save My Mind, it moves quickly into the previously unreleased "Fight the Losing Battle," which works the classic funk-thrash model to a tee. After a few tightly-wound funk numbers from Infectious Grooves (including an instrumental), there's some ridiculousness from Jeremiah Weed and the Bad Seed, which returns at the end of the disc for a hokey closing bit. In between, there are two amazing tracks from Missile Girl Scoot, the Japanese compatriots of Suicidal who mix punk, thrash, and pop as only the Japanese can. "Big Mouth" even finds a way to mash churning metal into chirpy, third wave ska. Friends and Family's second half is given over to guest shots from other Suicidal artists. Of these, two previously unreleased tracks from My Head seem to be the standout. Overall, Friends is pretty enjoyable. It provides a nice primer for where the label is now, and gives longtime fans a wealth of rare material. Ideally, the label's next ...
