Danish indie pop group Mew's 2003 debut features ten cheeky yet accessible tracks, such as "Am I Wry? No" and "Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years." Originally issued in 2003, FRENGERS marks the international debut of the Danish alternative-rock band Mew. Led by emotive frontman Jonas Bjerre, the group offers up a compelling, guitar-driven mix of energy and atmosphere on this 10-song outing, drawing from both early-1990s shoegazer bands (Ride, Catherine Wheel) and their more mainstream counterparts (Smashing Pumpkins), as best revealed on the soaring "156" and the upbeat yet contemplative "Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years," which features Stina Nordenstam on vocals. Mew would expand on the heavier elements of FRENGERS on the subsequent AND THE GLASS HANDED KITES, an album that garnered the ensemble even more attention and acclaim.
International pressing of the indie Danish band's debut album. Ten tracks including, 'Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years' (duet with Stina Nordenstam). 'Frengers is a work of quiet brilliance, aiming for the epic without straying into the bombastic, offering cerebral arrangements while keeping things accessible. A winner'. - Bang. Sony. 2003. | Frengers Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) A lot of good soft pop... As soon as I heard it, I fell in love with 156. The rest of the album is nice, relaxing soft pop with nice vocals and sweeping sounds. Submitted by Rowan (Newcastle, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Very good, but... ...It was definitely no "Glass-Handed Kites" in means of intricateness. I was absolutely enamoured by GHK because of its off-beat time signatures. I wanted more, so I purchased Frengers, and found that most of or all of the albums is written in 4/4. Either way, it is still a great album. If you already have GHK, I would recommend purchasing Frengers. If you don't have either I would recommend purchasing GHK, or, if you have the money, go for both they're both well worth it. Mew has proven themselves worthy of being my favorite band(at least recently.) Submitted by Al (Las Vegas, NV) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
| | Zac Brown Foundation CD (2008)
Frengers
$12.55 On 2008's THE FOUNDATION, singer/guitarist Zac Brown leads his ensemble on a vibrant set of country-rock. While the Georgia-based performer is clearly comfortable with ballads (see his emotive cover of Ray LaMontagne's "Jolene"), he seems most at home on twangy, carefree tracks such as "Toes," "Chicken Fried," and "Sic `Em on a Chicken." Now that Jimmy Buffett has tried repositioning himself as a country artist by cutting duets with the likes of Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney and Clint Black, it should come as no surprise that the Parrothead influence has begun making its way into Nashville, and the first major-label effort from Zac Brown features not one but two songs ("Toes" and "Where the Boat Leaves From") devoted to the joys of getting buzzed and playing music in some seaside locale with good weather. Seeing how most of the great names ...
| | Rush Working Men CD (2009)
Frengers
$14.54 Rush is no stranger to best-of compilation albums, they've released a slew of them. They are also no stranger to DVDs. To mark their 35th anniversary, they've released Working Men, which is both; it marks their first best-of live compilation exclusively from the DVD sets Rush in Rio (2003), R30 (2005), and Snakes & Arrows Live (2008). There is also an unreleased cut from R30 -- a killer version of One Little Victory. While fans may simply regard this as a record company cash grab, hardcore fans know how closely Rush monitors each release and controls all aspects of their career. On hearing these tracks without benefit of the visuals, it becomes lucidly clear that in the 21st century, Rush plays more like a hungry act looking to prove themselves rather than as seasoned veterans jaded by the entire business. The instrumental interaction ...

| | Left Front Tire Social Icon CD (2000)
Frengers
$16.49 Formed in 1992 in Cornelia, Georgia (a small community in the north Georgia mountains) when the band members were barely in their teens, Left FrontTire spent its early days of playing school gigs locally around Habersham County. Citing influences ranging from Guns 'n' Roses to Rancid and declar-inga fondness for "old country like Hank Sr. and Merle," the band released an eponymous DIY album in '96. "We did that and graduated from highschool; we thought we'd be famous in '97. It never went like that," says drummer Josh Davis. The band followed in 2000 with Social Icon, a blistering album filled with dead-on harmonies and infectious pop hooks delivered with an attitude. Alongwith 10 original tracks, Left Front Tire acknowledged the full range of their musical influences - not to mention their roots - with a cover of Hank WilliamsJr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive."Social Icon, produced by Rick Beato (Mike Lee, King Konga) and released on the band's own Gladiator Records, sold over 5,000 copies. Earning a repas a high-energy live band, Left Front Tire not only grabbed the attention of punk-pop fans throughout the Southeast club circuit but also in the musicindustry. This reputation - and their ability to back it up - led to performances in front of huge crowds at Atlanta alternative rock station 99X's "Big Day Out" and Music Midtown (Atlanta, GA's largest outdoor festival). In 2001, Left Front Tire's song "Bring You Down" was added as the third track on the American Pie 2 soundtrack just behind Blink 182 and Green Dayand before the likes of Uncle Kracker, American Hi-Fi and Alien Ant Farm. In late 2001, 99X added the single to their rotation. Now, after a decade spent honing their sound, recording and playing live dates, stacking up an impressive resume along the way, Left Front Tire is poisedto release its first album with The Redeye Label, 42 Ways to Lose a Friend. The album's title came about through a conversation the band had in their tour van during one outing. "It was one of those 'on the road' conversations,"recalls drummer Josh Davis. "We actually counted up the girls we had known that more than one of us had dated; first it was 10, then when we got to42 we were like, 'Ohmigod, this is so embarrassing,'" he says, laughing. "The reason we selected that for the name of record is that it reflects our livesin between the last record and this record - growing up, becoming a man, and the terrible things we did to each other. Somehow, we all got throughit, 'cause we're all best friends in the world."Frontman Chip Dillard couldn't agree more. "We went in a little foggy but we hacked through it, and it was just like, ...

| | Steve Suffet I've Been Up On The Mountain CD (2006)
Frengers
$15.19 Born Stephen Lawrence Suffet in 1947, Steve Suffet is best described as an old fashioned folk singer in the People's Music tradition. His repertoire is a mixture of railroad songs, trucker songs, union songs, old time country music, blues, ragtime, Gospel, topical-political songs, and whatever else tickles his fancy. He takes songs from whatever sources he wishes and then he sings them his own way, maybe rewriting the lyrics on the spot or changing the music to fit his own particular style.Heavily involved in the antiwar movement in the 1960s, Steve appeared at several of the legendary Broadside magazine hoots in New York City. Steve later left the organized folk scene for nearly thirty years, playing instead at political rallies and demonstrations, campgrounds, schools, day care centers, weddings, parks, pubs, and pick-up jam sessions.Steve returned ...
