Principally recorded at The Fun Attic and Bulldog Studios, Franklin, Tennessee. Genuine is the debut disc from alternative CCM artist Stacie Orrico, which combines her positive Christian convictions with musical inspiration, embracing the pop/urban influence represented by Christina Aguilera and Lauryn Hill. Orrico deals with tricky lyrical issues (insecurity, peer pressure, anorexia) while musically sustaining mainstream crossover appeal. To her credit, Orrico co-wrote "Don't Look at Me," "Genuine," and the disc's closing track "Dear Friend," exclusively. ~ Al Campbell If you don't listen closely, you might miss the spiritual messages contained in Stacie Orrico's lyrics on GENUINE. These frothy, percolating tracks are ostensibly full of dance-pop/R&B a la Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc. Orrico certainly looks the part, as her youthful beauty could easily inspire countless posters adorning teenage bedroom walls. However, a careful inspection reveals Orrico's larger purpose. Throughout GENUINE, she sings of faith and spirituality in no uncertain terms. Her praise of the Lord is expressed quite clearly; but her vocal delivery and the carefully crafted arrangements make these sentiments go down so smoothly that the listener can choose to either take their meaning to heart or just enjoy them as pure pop confections. Better than Christina, Mariah, Whitney and Madonna togheter! I remember the first time I saw and heard Stacie was about two years ago, on MTV. I turned the TV on and it was playing "Stuck". For a minute, I though "Is it Christina Aguilera?" But I was wrong, because Stacie is very better than Christina Aguilera! Not only better than Aguilera, but better than ALL the divas out there (less Britney)!!! Some months after, I went to a music store. Which was the first album I noticed in there? Stacie's self-titled album. I had some money in my pocket, so I got it. Then, I got home. I put the record in my stereo. I listened to "Stuck", great song, I already knew that. I just couldn't believe that young girl had such a really blessed voice! I just LOVE Stacie! She ROCKS!!! Now I'm looking for her debut album, because it's better than her second. Not too old for this one I first heard "Without Love" on Christian radio here and had to buy the CD. Her rendition of this song is unique, modern and beautiful. Its my favourite but the CD generally is great listening. Its fresh and alive and you don't have to be a Christian to enjoy it and relate to the songs. Its a great CD at any age. I am 42 and its not too young for me. Submitted by gtwright (Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Audio Mixers: Dave Bascombe; Nick Batt; Kevin Paul. Recording information: Christchurch Studios; Home; The Bungalow. When Goldfrapp's debut, FELT MOUNTAIN, appeared in 2000, no one was quite sure how to categorize the music, but that didn't stop fans and critics alike from gushing about it. A collaboration between singer-keyboardist-songwriter Allison Goldfrapp and composer/producer Will Gregory, Goldfrapp is rooted in the heavy-lidded, ambient soundscapes of trip-hop, yet exhibits an equal interest in various other styles ranging from jazz to cabaret to film music. On FELT MOUNTAIN, Goldfrapp sometimes sounds trapped in an Ennio Morricone-styled tableau: all whistling and spooky wind-swept vistas. Elsewhere, the duo exudes the cool, tongue-in-cheek attitude of a Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood project. Yet Goldfrapp are more than just postmodern tricksters: their songs are substantive, and their productions and electronica-charged arrangements are never less than outstanding. This is the first (and will likely remain ...

$10.59 The Best of Traffic is an excellent sampler of their best work with Dave Mason. For the casual fan, this is a good place to start. However, the three albums covered by this release Mr. Fantasy, Traffic, and Last Exit are essential in their own right. So, you may want to start here, but you certainly shouldn't stop here! Universal. 2005.
Traffic: Steve Winwood (vocals, guitar, piano, harpsichord, bass, percussion) Dave Mason (vocals, guitar, Mellotron, bass); Chris Wood (vocals, flute, saxophone, organ); Jim Capaldi (vocals, drums, percussion). Personnel: Steve Winwood (vocals, guitar, piano, harpsichord, organ, keyboards, percussion); Dave Mason (vocals, guitar, Mellotron); Chris Wood (vocals, flute, saxophone, organ, wind); Jim Capaldi (vocals, keyboards, drums, percussion). Though Traffic broke up at the start of 1969, the band was on a commercial ascent, which led Island Records, their U.K. label, and United Artists, which licensed their product for the U.S., to assemble a posthumous album, Last Exit, released in April 1969, that, like its predecessor, Traffic, peaked in the American top 20. Meanwhile, former band member Steve Winwood formed Blind Faith, which produced a debut album that topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. No wonder Island and UA determined that the fall of 1969 was a good time for a Traffic compilation. The release ...
