Cave In: Steve Brodsky (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Adam McGrath (guitar); Caleb Scofield (bass); John-Robert Conners (drums). Additional personnel: Kurt Ballou, Jacob Bannon, Jay Randall, Travis Shettel, Matt Lacasse (vocals). Recorded at God City Studios, Allston, Massachussets between April 26 & May 16, 1998. Until Your Heart Stops continues and widens Cave-In's assault upon body and mind. The chugga-chugga chunks are still there, this time refined into escalating and edgy walls of sound that owe a large debt to Slayer. Newly present, however, are forays into psychedelia and noise. At times expansive and at other times dark and claustrophobic, these always aggressive ventures open new doors for Cave-In. When fused with the usual jarring assemblage of riffs, a bold and original heavy music is created. Perhaps the only band who has successfully tread similar ground is Neurosis. Until Your Heart Stops' production is a major force as well; the band's undertakings are captured and conveyed in a way that at times sound impossibly dense, balancing gut-stabbing bottom end with piercing highs. This is one key factor among many that burn away the hardcore framework through which Cave-In originally slipped. ~ Matthew Kantor Until Your Heart Stops Music Cave In Until Your Heart Stops Songs Until Your Heart Stops Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) better than hypothermia brutal and crushing. buy it now! Cave In's hardcore beginnings This album is miles away from the dreamy progressive, sometimes even popy sounds of their later albums starting with Jupiter. It is brutal, heavily influenced by pantera and sepultura, in fact some power chords are exactly like pantera's. Definately a hard hitting metal record. However it already sounds slightly dated. Not the most original thing you will ever hear but a harbringer of greatness to come. Submitted by tolik7777 (Edinburgh, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
dont touch that dial! this album is a masterpiece, albeit it is far from antenna, or jupiter and such, the mix of metal, dissonance, and trippy guitars makes this album appeal to a lot more than just the hc crowd
check out newer cave-in if you are more into experimentation and don't mind pink floyd or rush ;)
if you like the hard hitting sound of this, check out beyond hypothermia Submitted by isis_mosquito (Houston,TX,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
this is the best live act of come out of boston (hands down) what would happen if pink floyd and pantera got into a car crash well here it is.........this cd is nothing but pure brilliance i honestly can't decide if this or jupiter is their best but as always they are both completely different from each other with cave in what you hear on cd is what you hear live and that is soooo disheartening for fellow musicans, they make you wanna pack your guitar and just simply give up.(i almost forgot about the "beatlesque" melodic vocals that come out to sooth everything together) Submitted by Derek (Acushnet) Was This Review Helpful? Until Your Heart Stops
$10.39 Hip-O Records' Songs for the Car is part of the Universal Music Family series of compilation albums intended for children. This one is for "ages 2+," as the cover proclaims. But parents noting that and observing the cute illustration of a car on the front cover might want to peruse the back cover to see the contents before picking this disc up and putting it in the car CD player. On the basis of this example, it looks as though the series has been approached from an outside-in attitude, that is, that record company executives began with the question, "What's another way to exploit the catalog?," as opposed to, "What music actually would be appropriate for toddlers?" In the collection's defense, it can be said that there are songs to which small children might be expected to respond, such as Bob Dorough's "Three Is a Magic Number," which gets into times tables; Bobby McFerrin's "Mañana Iguana"; and even James Brown's "I Got Ants in My Pants (And I Want to Dance), Pt. I." Also, the songs tend to have catchy choruses and to maintain ...
