John Merrick was known as the elephant man because of a deadly disease that transformed his features and proportions into something monstrous. He survived as a circus freak show attraction until Frederick Treves decided to "rescue" him and to introduce him to society. Treves tries hard to protect his charge--and slowly the physically deformed Merrick emerges from his shell and reveals a keen mind and a sensitive soul. But Merrick, realizing that he can never truly be a part of the "normal" world, eventually makes a difficult, heartbreaking decision...

David Lynch brings his own dreamlike style to the heartbreaking yet somehow uplifting story of John Merrick (John Hurt), a hideously deformed individual dubbed the Elephant Man during his years in a circus freak show in Victorian England. After suffering for years at the hands of his circus "master," the eloquent, soft spoken Merrick is "rescued" by compassionate surgeon Dr. Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins), who allows him to live at the hospital where he works. Merrick becomes a social celebrity when he meets a popular stage performer (Anne Bancroft), but he must continue to fight for his dignity with those who still choose to view him as a freak. Meanwhile, Treves begins to question whether his supposed act of humanity has been just as exploitative as Merrick's former caretaker's. Lynch's follow-up to his 1978 cult classic ERASERHEAD is a seamless blend of art and entertainment, which earned the film eight Academy Award nominations in 1980. Freddie Francis's breathtaking black-and-white cinematography combines with John Morris's score to re-create Victorian England with a deeply haunting beauty. It is the compassionate performances of Hurt and Hopkins that lift THE ELEPHANT MAN to a more emotional level, however, bringing an inspired sadness to Lynch's striking vision.

Theatrical Release: October 10, 1980 Made at Lee International Film Studios, Wembley, Middlesex, England. The film's closing credits read: "Based on THE ELEPHANT MAN AND OTHER REMINISCENCES by Sir Frederick Treves and in part on THE ELEPHANT MAN: A STUDY IN HUMAN DIGNITY by Ashley Montagu. Lynch had an extreme advocate in Mel Brooks, whose BrooksFilms company produced the picture. Brooks fought to hire Lynch as THE ELEPHANT MAN's director and helped to ensure that his artistic vision remained intact.

5 stars Someone pat me on the back darnit..
This film made me gravely depressed for a couple of days. Not because it was bad,god no,this film is brilliant! It got me so misanthropic and hateful of most people out there who are stuck in materialism and judge others because they think, look,or act differently than them. You will either be crying like a baby after watching this film or thinking about the movie for days,if not both.Five stars!!

The photography, the music, the actors, the story...PERFECT This is a beautiful story. Anthony Hopkins was wonderful, John Hurt was magnificent and even Freddy Jones gave a performance so true to life it was frightening. Beautifully done. A very dark film that touches the core of our conscience. Everyone should own it!

The Impossible Mission Force continues to plot subterfuge on the homefront in this seventh season of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. While previous years pitted these Cold War warriors against international goons, the show's later seasons increasingly found the crack squad of saboteurs using their gadgets and cunning to foil more native threats such as organized crime. The result is more time spent by Jim (Peter Graves), Barney (Greg Morris), and Willie (Peter Lupus) in the good old U.S.A. All through their daredevil adventures, the team's skills still prove razor-sharp--especially with the help of the stunning Lisa Casey (Lynda Day George). This collection presents the show's thrilling seventh season. The clock's ticking... Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack Spanish; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re

But even Samson's strength has its weakness as there isn't a man in the world who won't share his secrets with some woman. Most men have been trapped by smiles rather than by ropes. Castaways.

Robot Chicken Star Wars 2
Robot Chicken Star Wars 2 DVD  (2009) Full Frame

Elephant Man movie DVD
DVD $14.39  Top 500
The warped minds at Adult Swim's ROBOT CHICKEN once more take their demented sensibility to the holy grail of sci-fi epics, STAR WARS, in this hilarious special. As usual, a cast of celebrities lend their voices to the animated antics (even George Lucas gets in on the action), which include Emperor Palpatine dishing to his hairstylist, and plenty of surreal situations featuring Darth Vader, Lando Calrissian, and Boba Fett. Robot Chicken: Star Wars 2 brazenly combines the satirical sensibilities of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich's (Stoopid Monkey Productions) Robot Chicken with the unforgettable moments and favorite characters of the Star Wars universeamong them, its creator himself, George Lucas. Transformed into the stop-motion animated characters that are the hallmark of Adult Swim's Robot Chicken, and in conjunction with ShadowMachine Films (Alex Bulkley/Corey Campodonico), the Star Wars galaxy takes on an entirely different attitude.
