In this classic fantasy/adventure, pure good and foulest evil will soon battle to the death. Set amid a timeless mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins and other magical folk is the story of Jack, a forest dweller who lives in solitude and harmony with the animals of the wood--including Unicorns, who are key to keeping light alive and evil at bay. Chosen by fate to undertake a heroic quest, Jack must brave a host of terrors to not only save his true love--a beautiful princess named Lili--from the clutches of the demonic Lord of Darkness, but also rescue a captive unicorn--or the world will be plunged into a never-ending ice age where the dawn never comes and evil rei In Ridley Scott's LEGEND, young Jack lives in a magic forest populated with friendly and exotic creatures. But the delicate balance between good and evil is upset when the Lord of Darkness seizes Jack's beloved, Lili, and a horn from one of the last unicorns, thereby gaining control of the universe. The plucky lad must then assemble a band of elves and do battle with the forces of evil to set Lili free and restore peace to the world. Director Ridley Scott's lush fantasy film stars the young Tom Cruise as Jack, a peasant who lives in an enchanted forest with his beloved Lili (Mia Sara). One day, while quietly gamboling in a glade, the pair is distracted by the appearance of trolls, minions of the evil Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry). The cloven-footed, cavern-dwelling monster, long banished to the earth's nether regions, has sent the creatures on a mission to seize the horn of a unicorn, thereby plunging the planet into a frigid darkness over which he alone will reign. Things go from bad to worse as Lili succumbs to the forces of darkness, and Jack must assemble a motley band of elves to free her from bondage and return sunlight to the earth's surface. Sumptous art direction and overwhelming special effects are once again a testament to Scott's powers of visual invention. Theatrical release: April 1986.
Filmed on the James Bond set at Pinewood Studios in England. Production was delayed when the set burned down.
The movie was screened on August 26, 1985, as the opening film of the Venice Film Festival.
LEGEND marked Mia Sara's film debut.
The European version of LEGEND is 20 minutes longer than the 89-minute American cut and features a Jerry Goldsmith score. Legend Reviews: "...Exhilarating visual elements....It is a fairy-tale produced on a grand scale, a classic tale of the struggle between darkness and light, good and evil..."
-- Strat., Variety "...Awesome in its fantasy splendor....It is a sumptuous, richly colored feast for cinematographer Alex Gordon's camera..."

This is fantasy at it's best.
Ridley Scott created a dark world with incredible sets and make-up.

Fun Getaway Legend is not so well known treasure that is a fun and beautiful journey for fantasy lovers. Tim Curry puts in a performance that approaches his brilliance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. A trip definately worth taking! Submitted by blane (Anderson, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Just how fantasies should be Surprising to think that Ridley Scott directed both this and gladiator: This knocks spots off that film. This directors cut is not available in Britain, we have to put up with the version using the Naff Tangerine Dream soundtrack. what, I wonder, happened to the young stars? $9.69 Based on a story by STAR WARS creator George Lucas, WILLOW is director Ron Howard's fantasy world of medieval adventure. WILLOW stars Val Kilmer as Madmartigan, a swashbuckling warrior, and Warwick Davis as the title character. In a mythical kingdom, the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh) plots to kill all infants so that the newborn princess, Elora, will never take over the throne. But a midwife sets the baby adrift in a river, and she is rescued by Willow, a farmer in Nelwyn, a peaceful village of trolls, fairies, and little folk. Willow and Madmartigan begin a quest to deliver the baby from evil while being chased by Queen Bavmorda's daughter, Sorsha (Joanne Whalley), sent to bring the baby back to Nockmaar. Director Howard benefited from his affiliation with George Lucas on the film--Lucas's company, Industrial Light and Magic, contributed the Oscar-nominated special effects. Lucas, the executive producer of WILLOW, went on to create a series of books based on the world of WILLOW, the SHADOW WAR series.

This was legendary special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen's last film before he retired from creating movie magic. L.A. $6.39 ANGEL AND THE BADMAN: An old-fashioned Western with John Wayne at his best as a gunfighter who must choose between the girl he loves and his guns which always seem to attract trouble. When outlaw Quirt Evans (Wayne) is wounded during a bank robbery, he is taken in by a gentle Quaker family and nursed back to health by their lovely daughter Penelope Worth (Gail Russell). Quirt begins to rethink his violent lifestyle after falling in love with Penelope and being hounded by his rival Laredo Stevens (Bruce Cabot) and a laconic U.S. marshal named Wistful McClintlock (Harry Carey). With its excellent script, quirky characters, and a sweet-natured blend of comedy and action, ANGEL AND THE BADMAN is justly considered one of the best Westerns ever made.
THE OUTLAW: Doc Holliday (Walter Huston) meets the notorious Billy the Kid (Jack Beutel), who has stolen his horse. Doc's old friend Pat Garrett, now a sheriff, wants to arrest the Kid for murder, but Doc helps his young friend flee to a hideout, where Billy meets Rio (Jane Russell), a beautiful young woman who soon finds herself falling in love with him. As Doc and Billy try to evade the law, they run into a series of adventures involving Indians and gunfights, culminating in a fierce showdown. Under the control of director/ producer Howard Hughes, THE OUTLAW became both a classic Western and a tribute to the charms of its leading lady, 19-year-old Jane Russell, whose cleavage was featured prominently in the film's publicity. As a result, THE OUTLAW became one of the most controversial films of the 1940s, leading to a protracted battle with censors that only added to the film's allure. The story of Pat Garrett, Doc Holliday, and Billy the Kid sharply veers from historical reality but the result is a fun and engaging classic ...
