Bruno Ganz stars as an angel willing to risk losing his wings for the chance to be with the mortal woman he's come to love. Directed by Wim Wenders. The sky over Wenders's war-scarred Berlin is full of gentle angels wearing trench coats who listen to the tortured thoughts of mortals and try to comfort them. One wishes to become mortal after falling in love with a beautiful trapeze artist. Peter Falk, as himself, assists in the transformation by explaining the simple joys of a human experience, such as the sublime combination of coffee and cigarettes. The result is a film that is simultaneously sentimental and cerebral. Wings Of Desire Reviews: "...[WINGS OF DESIRE] has a loveliness of conception that, for a time, keeps it as feathery as an angel's wings....Wender's mpst ambitous effort yet, and [it] certainly radiates immense promise..."
-- Janet Maslin, New York Times "...Visualized through some inspiring cinematography..."
-- Mary Corliss, Film Comment "...A magnificent film of sublime beauty and contagious optimism....Alekan's visual power, softly swirling and mysterious, is unsurpassed..."
-- Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times "...The film evokes a mood of reverie, elegy and meditation....You're seduced into the spell of this movie....CITY OF ANGELS is a skillful romantic comedy..."
-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "...Legendary cinematographer Henri Alekan shot the film's brooding first half in emotionally stirring monochrome....[Later] this truly original piece of work switches to color..."
-- Mike Clark, USA Today "...Wender's response to each of the Berlin locations, captured so evocatively by Henri Alekan's monochrome photography, reveals a profound understanding of their cultural significance and poetic potential..."

Wings Of Desire Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Wings of Desire touches someplace deep This movie always takes me to a deeply familiar place in regards to a spiritual knowing. The images and quiet moments are compelling and not easily forgotten. This has long been one of my favorite movies. Submitted by Suenlomb (Lombard, Illinois) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
You'll never get tired of it. 'Wings of Desire' is one of those films that will reveal something new each time you see it. Pretentious? At times, yes, but the film overcomes that by giving the viewer much to think about. Also, Solveig Dommartin is so beautiful in this film; it was heartbreaking to learn of her death in early 2007. Poetry in motion The first glimpse of the movie leaves you with disappointment, "Black & White?" you asked yourself. But in five minutes this disappointment vanishes and the story takes you on a tour through thoughts and emotions. The angles all around in Berlin, this wonderfull lovestory that wonders around the story. The music that gives this movie that strange atmosphere. A joyfull experience of Wim Wenders I must say. If you have seen this movie you wonder how on earth they could make 'City of Angles' as a remake of this masterpiece Submitted by a reviewer (Deventer, , Netherlands) Was This Review Helpful? $3.19 Dr. Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco), of the New York Historical Society, accepts a research assignment abandoned by a colleague who has committed suicide. The project requires the researcher to temporarily take up residence in a New England mansion along with his wife, Lucy (Katherine MacColl) and their son, Bob (Giovanni Frezza). Norman discovers his colleague had become consumed with the history of the home's original owner, a turn-of-the-Century surgeon named Dr. Freudstein who possessed a fondness for illegal experiments. Further investigation reveals Freudstein had found a way to stay alive by using cells derived from fresh human blood. The Boyles find out the hard way that the maggot-stuffed, undead doctor remains lurking in the shadows of the house, killing anybody who crosses his path.
While the plot does at times lose itself to vagueness and the inexplicable, Italian director Lucio Fulci reinforces his "Godfather Of Gore" moniker as visceral sequences (human mutilation ...

$20.09 In 1943, as World War II's Battle of Berlin rages, with air raids forcing families into their cellars for shelter and bombs exploding all over the city, Felice Schragenheim (Juliane Köhler) and Lilly Wust (Maria Schrader), fall in love. Director Max Färberböck's AIMEE & JAGUAR tells the true story of this passionate, forbidden love affair, adapted from the 1998 book of the same title by Erica Fischer.
Felice, a dark and beautiful Jewish woman who is constantly in danger of being apprehended by the Gestapo, works for a Nazi newspaper under a false name, feeding what she learns to underground resistance leaders. Lilly, a flowery blond housewife living in bourgeoise comfort, raises 4 little boys, passing the time until her Nazi husband, Gunther, returns from the war. When the two meet, and Felice makes advances, Lilly responds, falling into total submission under Felice's spell. They nickname each other Aimee (Lilly) and Jaguar (Felice), spending every night dancing to popular 40s jazz music with Felice's eccentric lesbian friends, and every day raising the four boys who treat Felice like a second mother. It is not until the end of their affair, when Lilly--and soon thereafter, the authorities--learns that Felice is a Jew, and tragedy befalls the couple.
Felice is living a dangerous life: in the middle of World War II in Berlin, she is a Jew and a lesbian, and works undercover at a ...
