| | Tweet Southern Hummingbird CD (2002)
Rise Or Fall
$11.55 This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Contains 2 untitled hidden tracks after "Southern Hummingbird (Outro)." Personnel includes: Tweet, Missy Elliott, Bilal. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Prior to her debut album, Southern Hummingbird, Tweet made her name as a protégée of Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, appearing as a backing/guest vocalist on a few tracks with Elliott and, naturally, Elliott's producer, Timbaland. It should come as no surprise that those are the two dominant personalities on Southern Hummingbird, even if Tweet produces and co-writes several cuts here, since this whole axis has one sound that has served them well. Served them so well, it's given them critical and chart hits, along with a host of imitators, so there is no reason to abandon it now, even if the skeletal rhythms and endlessly looped riffs are beginning to wear a bit thin. This formula depends more on the overall sound of the track than the charisma of the singer -- but, ironically enough, it works best when its fronted by somebody with personality, like Elliott. Tweet fades into the mix. She's attractive and is sweetly sexy, but isn't forceful. That works to her advantage on the lead single, "Oops (Oh My)," where she's so taken by a seduction she can barely speak, or even ...

| | Someone Still Loves You Boris Y Broom CD (2006)
Rise Or Fall
$10.59 Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin: John, Tom, Will, Phil. Audio Mixers: Jonathan James ; Jonathan James. Recording information: Will's House Attic And Downstairs (2004-2005); Will's House, In The Attic And Downstairs (2004-2005). Author: Christopher Walla. Photographer: Aaron Scott. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin apparently studied the formula for the recent pop break-out of the Shins in order to engineer their own. BROOM, a reissue of their first recording--originally released only in the band's hometown of Springfield, Missouri--charms the listener with breezy acoustic Shins-esque gems, featuring the sunny pop harmonies of John Robert Cardwell and Co. With ear candy like "Oregon Girl" and "Anne Elephant," the band can very easily convince, not only Boris Yeltsin, but listeners everywhere that they are indeed loved. Perhaps it makes sense that a band like Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin felt the need to give themselves a name as such, because otherwise, if they were called something monosyllabic and with a definite article they would run the risk of becoming lost and obscured in the vast, vast music world. Luckily for Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, they have managed to find possibly the most bothersome, yet memorable, name in recent history (other contenders: I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Cute Is What We Aim For, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the latter mainly because of its variable exclamation point placement), which certainly helps in distinguishing them from the other simple, poppy piano-and-guitar-driven ensembles. The band, which actually self-released their debut, Broom, in their hometown of Springfield, MO, in 2005, posted some songs on their website, and soon became critics' darlings (a story that disarmingly resembles that of onetime blogosphere faves Tapes 'n ...
