Bury Your Dead: Mat Bruso (vocals); Erica Ellis, Slim (guitar); Richard Casey (bass instrument); Mark Castillo (drums). Audio Mixer: Matthew Ellard. Recording information: Q Division Studios, Somerville, MA. Like Throwdown, Killswitch Engage and fellow Connecticut troupe Hatebreed, Bury Your Dead goes straight for the jugular on Cover Your Tracks, a bloodcurdling exercise in death metal. Gore meets 'core front and center as guitars collide with a relentless bass drum thump on the band's Victory Records debut, as lead throat Mat Bruso gargles his way through bruising, maniacal funeral marches like "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Mission: Impossible." All of the song titles are nicked from Tom Cruise movies -- "Top Gun," "Losin' It" and "The Color of Money" are a few more -- but the emotional quotient is almost always grim, baring little resemblance to the aforementioned films. Most often, BYD takes aim at nay-sayers and greedy, promiscuous women with hate and vengeance on its collective mind. Cathartic as it may be, Cover Your Tracks is a joyless experience, but if this kind of threatening, disturbing musical presentation is your bag, BYD do it about as well as any of the aforementioned. ~ John D. Less Is More Bury Your Dead have proven the formula of less is more on this album. The guitar work by Eric and Slimby is simple yet catchy, very laid back on the album, but ripped up and brutal on a live set. Rick's bass is non-existent, probably cos he is playing exactly what the guitarists are playing. Matt's vocals are brutal at best, but are monotoned and can often become boring. To really get into them you will need to see them live. Mark the drummer has a very different style to the rest of the band. He keeps his arms robotic with the click track but his kicks are all over the place. This really brings a bit relief to the whole album. Instead of kicking to the palm muted notes like virtually every other band does, he mixes it up. Though the bass drum sounds like pencils tapping a paper cup, his playing doesn't. It's tight. To really get a good idea of the real BYD, get the CD/DVD Alive, which features Matt (before he decided to become a priest...ok), the sound is of a good quality and the drumming is great. Overall Cover Your Tracks is a solid effort by BYD that will keep the hardcore kids moshing for more. Submitted by Lachy The Drummer (Bundaberg,QLD,AUS) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
great album, great dudes wow, some amazings things have been happening to Bury Your Dead lately. Oz fest, countless great tours, not to mention getting signed to Victory Records. i'd have to say being a byd fan since the first demo, since the first full length "You Had Me At Hello," and to their break up immediatly following, this band will never get old. ever time i see them, they always leave me begging for more. believe it or not i bought this at walmart. as soon as i heard, my mouth dropped. these 12 songs of brutality are made me want to blow out my van speakers. but because i lack the cash to replace them, i'll see them around. if this is your first time tasting byd, be prepared. i suggest your practice your windmill kicks. i gave it a 4 because a few olf the songs on here are off their old cd on Eulogy Records (pick that sh*t up as well) they also released a new cd a few months ago called "Beauty and the Breakdown" on Victory Records. damn metal drums! Awesome guitar work, decent consistent vocals, but omg why did the drums have to kill it. The guy is obviously a great drummer but the double kick sounds like a q-tip tapping a roll of tissue. Despite that, this album is still worth the money unless ur so jaded you'd let that ruin the whole thing for you. Agony Scene now that's how drums are supposed to sound. $11.49 Throwdown: Ben, Dave, Matt, Dom. Although 2003's Haymaker was a tough act to follow, Throwdown don't lose any creative ground on their inspired follow-up, Vendetta. Those who use bloated phrases like "the future of metal" to describe Throwdown are going overboard with the hype; however, it is no exaggeration to say that the southern California outfit is one of the more impressive bands in the metalcore field -- and considering how many metalcore bands were formed in the late '90s and early to mid-2000s, that is saying a lot. All of the things that made Haymaker a winner are equally prevalent on Vendetta; from the intelligent lyrics to the infectious hooks ...

$10.09 Recording information: Audiohammer Studios (11/2007-12/2007). For their first album with new permanent vocalist Myke Terry, Bury Your Dead have gone back to bludgeoning basics, beginning with, but not limited to, the album's title. Opening track "Sympathy Orchestra" is pummeling sheet metal that amply displays Terry's harsh, bellowed vocals, and "Womb Disease" gouges away on barbed, springy bass while the guitars scrape and grind. Their name has never been more appropriate, as the precise, rhythmic riffs sound like they could be digging in hard, ...
