1997 saw the appearance of yet another Lynyrd Skynyrd best of set, entitled WHAT'S YOUR NAME. What made this collection different from the others was that it was issued through the budget-price MCA Special Products label. At only ten tracks in length, it's one of the shorter Skynyrd albums, and by including several rarely-heard tracks ("Mississippi Kid," "Things Goin' On," "I Need You"), some Skynyrd standards are omitted. But WHAT'S YOUR NAME still manages to include recognizable fan faves such as "That Smell," "What's You Name," "Simple Man," and on the CD version, "Sweet Home Alabama." What's Your Name album
$8.25 SECOND HELPING is also available with PRONOUNCED LEH'NERD SKIN'ERD on one cassette.
It was hard to believe that Lynyrd Skynyrd could possibly top its classic, near-perfect 1973 debut, PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD. However, the boys from Florida accomplished the near-impossible with their sophomore release one year later, SECOND HELPING. It's hard to determine the better album of the two, but both proved to be a solid one-two punch that made Lynyrd Skynyrd one of the '70s' biggest (and unfortunately, most tragic) rock bands.
SECOND HELPING also helped define and create the Southern rock movement, as proven by such tracks as the classic anthem "Sweet Home Alabama" (which include the now-famous dig at Neil Young), the cautionary rocker "The Needle & the Spoon," and the biographical tale of "Workin' For MCA." With its fine writing and playing, and scores of hard-hitting Southern rock riffs and grooves, SECOND HELPING assured Skynyrd's ascendancy to rock stardom and FM radio immortality.
Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote the book on Southern rock with their first album, so it only made sense that they followed it for their second album, aptly titled Second Helping. Sticking with producer Al Kooper (who, after all, discovered them), the group turned out a record that replicated all the strengths of the original, but was a little tighter and a little more professional. It also revealed that the band, under the direction of songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, was developing ...
| | Lynyrd Skynyrd Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Album CD (1998) Remastered
What's Your Name CD music
$11.99 To sample Lynyrd Skynyrd's true roots, the 1998 collection SKYNYRD'S FIRST goes back even further than their official debut release, 1973's PRONOUNCED LEH-NERD SKIN-NERD. Comprised of 17 tracks, SKYNYRD'S FIRST showcases early demos and outtakes that the band recorded prior to signing with MCA Records--when they were at their young and hungriest. While some of the tracks have already appeared on past releases (such as 1978's SKYNYRD'S FIRST AND LAST and their 1991 self-titled box set), longtime fans won't want to pass up having such great early versions of "Free Bird," "Simple Man," and the country-tinged "Seasons" on a single disc.
This 1998 reissue contains six bonus tracks.
Includes liner notes by Ron O' Brien.
Recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, Sheffield, Alabama.
Lynyrd Skynyrd includes: Rickey Medlocke (vocals, drums); Ronnie Van Zant, Tim Smith (vocals); Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Wayne Perkins, Jimmy Johnson ...

| | Lynyrd Skynyrd Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd CD (1973) Bonus Tracks
What's Your Name songs
$10.85 More rock than Little Feat, but with a similar Southern boogie feel and absolute top-notch musicianship. [sentence fragment okay with Muze?] Al Kooper produced this record, which explains the sensitive use of strings and piano. Although tracks such as "I Ain't The One," "Simple Man," and "Tuesday's Gone" are outstanding, the one to wait for is "Free Bird," a song that rivals "Stairway To Heaven" for hard rock credibility. The nine-minute epic starts with organ and slide and builds in a similar way, but at 4:44 it changes into fifth gear and the air guitars are out in force.

| | Lee Ann Womack Call Me Crazy CD (2008) Digipak
What's Your Name CD music
$10.85 After flirting with the pop mainstream with hit singles like "I Hope You Dance," Lee Ann Womack came decidedly back to country with 2005's THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM, an unapologetic stylistic throwback to the days when Patsy Cline and Kitty Wells ruled the country charts. While CALL ME CRAZY is nearly as traditionalist in its sound, and every bit as strong as a set of songs, it sounds perhaps a little more contemporary--more Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton than Patsy and Kitty--and includes highlights like first single "Last Call" and a pair of duets with Keith Urban and George Strait. CALL ME CRAZY was released as a vinyl LP as well as a digital download and a standard CD: the once retro but now once again hot format is a perfect fit for the ...

What's Your Name album
$15.85 A British rock group with ties to Led Zeppelin, Band of Joy offers up 10 tracks on this outing, including "Woman," "So Cold," and "She's the One."
This edition includes a bonus track, and marks the first time that the record has appeared in CD format.
The Band Of Joy are best known as the outfit that gave Robert Plant and John Bonham their leg-up on the stairway to Zeppelin. The group formed around 1966, went through numerous lineup changes over a two-year span, and finally broke up in 1968 when a recording contract failed to materialize. While the band relied on its live reputation to become a Midlands legend, a revised Band Of Joy finally made it to the studio ...

$11.99 Part of the same synth punk renaissance as the very similar (and unfortunately superior) Epoxies, VCR are a modern version of early-'80s new wave, with a three-synth front line backed by a garagey punk rhythm section. Their first full-length, Power Destiny builds on the strengths of their debut EP: the synthesizers are better integrated with each other, playing lead and rhythm lines like guitarists do rather than each simply bleeping off on their own like a trio of Brian Enos ...
