This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. A Static Lullaby: Dan Arnold (vocals, guitar); Phil Pirrone (vocals, bass instrument); Joe Brown (vocals); Nathan Lindeman (guitar); Brett Dinovo (drums). With the involvement of Sugar producer Lou Giordano and ex-Youth of Today/Gorilla Biscuits drummer Sammy Siegler, one might assume that FASO LATIDO is a raging slice of vintage hardcore or alternative rock. While the influences of these two genres abound in A Static Lullaby's style, this disc is much more closely allied with the post-hardcore/emo sound, mixing metallic guitar riffs with alternately crooned and screamed vocals. "Radio Flyer's Last Journey" is sprinkled with chugging, Pantera-style six-string licks and death-metal howls, while "Half Man, Half Shark; Equals One Complete Gentleman" draws influence from UNFORGETTABLE FIRE-era U2, complete with a driving bass line and delay-pedal-infused guitar drama. Lyrically, the California band breaks ranks with the usual emo notebook romance and takes a more socially aware stance, skewering everything from youthful complacency to environmental pollution. | Faso Latido Music Review Average Rating: (2.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews open your eyes A Static Lullaby here has suffered the effects of switching to a "major" label. However, the fact that the band was able to redeem itself with their self-titled cd, released in late 2006, is well worth consideration. As the new cd provides an amazing succession of "And Don't Forget to Breathe...," "Faso Latido" can then be re-evaluated as a bridge of the band's artistic capabilities and hardships.
"Faso Latido" gerenally has a more melancholic, relaxed rock sound, which songs like "Contagious" and "We Go to Eleven" coherently reflect upon. At first preview, the cd was a shock to much of the band's fanbase. It appeared to be an extreme shift from their first cd, but after carefully listening to it, fans can appreciate the talents of one of the first and best bands to master the art of screaming fused with melodic vocals and guitars.
As much of a step backward as "Faso Latido" appears to be for A Static Lullaby, it provides the foundation and exploration needed to take the band to new levels.
If you haven't checked out their self-titled album yet, I suggest you do so. You will not be dissapointed. And instead of reaching for your favorite break-up band Silverstein cd,
acknowledge "Faso Latido"'s unique discovery of the talents of the boys of Chino Hills. Submitted by cutlass_saves (Sharpsville, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Still supporting ASL even after they're new CD Okay, so everyone knows that A Static Lullaby's new CD isn't NEARLY as good as their old one. I didn't even think they were the same band anymore...they sound much more mainstream. I definately liked "...And don't forget to Breathe" much better. But really, if any of you "fans" of ASL liked them that much, you would still support them even after their new CD came out. I still have respect for them, and they're still my favorite band, even if I don't like their new music as much as their old.

$10.15 Pizzicato Five: Maki (vocals); DJ Konishi. Happy End of the World is the first album of entirely new material that the Pizzicato Five released in the United States, but it doesn't necessarily represent a great leap forward for the dance-lounge duo. Pizzicato Five continue to blend light '60s pop, '70s disco, and '80s dance with an ironic flair on Happy End of the World, but the energy level is turned down a bit. It's a surprisingly laid-back album, but that's not ...
| | Kenny Burrell At The Five Spot Cafe CD (1959)
Faso Latido
$9.15 Live Recording
Personnel: Kenny Burrell (guitar); Tina Brooks (tenor saxophone); Bobby Timmons, Roland Hanna (piano); Ben Tucker (bass); Art Blakey (drums). Recorded live at the Five Spot Cafe, New York, New York on August 25, 1959. Includes liner notes by Joe Goldberg and Michael Cuscuna. Kenny Burrell and Art Blakey played together infrequently during their careers, so this meeting of jazz minds is a welcome occasion. A rather short set issued here from club dates at the Five Spot Cafe in New York City must have meant there were other nights of recordings that did not make it for public consumption, or that Burrell simply sat in. No matter the configuration, this is come what may jazz that has no pressurized content, and a relaxed atmosphere allowing the music to organically breathe and come alive naturally. This loose but tight feeling comes to the fore right away on Dizzy Gillespie's "Birk's Works," a rather polite version as Burrell tosses out his discriminating versions of the melody. Incorrectly identified as "Lady Be Good," this is actually an adaptation reworked by Thelonious Monk titled "Hackensack". It's a fast jam kicked off by a signature Blakey solo, where the band flies by the seat of their pants, and good feelings are fostered through the simple and solid tenor work of Brooks. Though not penned by Duke Ellington, the elegance he displayed and Burrell has always revered is quite evident during the ballad "Lover Man." Randy Weston's "Beef Stew Blues," Ray Brown's obscure "Swingin'" and the classic Tadd Dameron ballad "If You Could See Me Now" further illuminates how good this group could have been had they turned into a working unit. As the dawn of the 1960s saw new breed jazz being fomented, Burrell, Blakey and company proved you could still swing and remain melodic while creating new sonic vistas. Then again, this is not Blakey's Jazz Messengers circa 1959, but more the Tina Brooks quartet featuring Blakey, with a rotating piano chair featuring either Bobby Timmons or Roland Hanna. No matter the configuration, this is come-what-may jazz that has no pressurized content, but rather a relaxed atmosphere allowing the music to breathe organically ...
