| | Jim Jones Dipset Christmas CD Jim Jones Discography of CDs
(6 Customer Reviews)
Personnel: Marcus Farrar (vocals); Mark Kellye (guitar); Arnold Mischkulnig (keyboards, programming). Author: Capo. Photographer: Roger Erickson. What makes Jim Jones' A Dipset Christmas worth consideration is the loose charm found on the first half -- the Christmas half -- of the album. The Dipset capo's quirked-out charisma and quippy style are suitably toned down to a surprisingly humble level, supporting both the light, Christmas party numbers and the bittersweet tales of the struggling holiday seasons past. Best of the latter is "Wish List," a believable track where Jones remembers what empty wallets and disappointed families feel like come the end of December. "Ballin' on Xmas" is fun if only for its riffing on Run-D.M.C.'s "Christmas in Hollis," and "Dipset X-mas Time" is a cheery and bright way for any hardcore baller to start his Christmas morn. "The mood is right/And I'm high is hell" isn't for the family gathering, and neither is the thugging second half of the album, which features some random, non-Christmas leftovers of which only the "We Fly High" remix is desirable. It's been a decade since the hood was sorta blessed with the much more throwaway Christmas on Death Row, so even with the abundant filler, A Dipset Christmas serves a purpose. ~ David Jeffries Jim Jones Dipset Christmas Songs Dipset Christmas Music Review Purchase Dipset Christmas CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Beef 3 DVD (2005) Widescreen

| | Chamillionaire Sound Of Revenge CD (2005) Parental Advisory
Dipset Christmas
$13.19 Personnel: Chamillionaire (rap vocals); Killer Mike, Krayzie Bone, Lil Wayne, Pastor Troy, Rasaq, Scarface, Lil' Flip, Natalie , Bun B (rap vocals). With THE SOUND OF REVENGE, Chamillionaire's 2005 Universal debut, the Houston-based rapper makes the most of his major-label deal, which includes his own Chamillitary imprint. On SOR, Paul Wall's former collaborator amps up that duo's signature chopped-and-screwed mixtape sound with heavy-duty arrangements that expertly showcase Chamillionaire's deep, husky voice. The introductory title track is marked by machine-gun beats, and establishes the album's fierce, restless mood. But the disc's highlight is the utterly infectious single "Turn It Up," which boasts Scott Storch's distinctive chiming production and an appearance by Lil' Flip. Although fellow Texan Bun-B, Krayzie Bone, and others also show up, REVENGE doesn't rely on guest shots; this is Chamillionaire's show through and through, as proven by each track on this assured and potent record. An experienced MC with piles of mixtapes and other underground releases in his past, Chamillionaire follows Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall as yet another Houstonian to surface aboveground in 2005. ...
| | Rod MacDonald White Buffalo CD (1996)
Dipset Christmas
$16.49 For more than a decade Rod MacDonald has been a staple of the contemporary singer/songwriter world. This classic CD -- originally released in Europe -- includes some of Rod's personal favorites.Born and raised in Connecticut, Rod began appearing in New York's clubs and coffeehouses in the 1970s. After a three-year stint of national touring, Rod settled in the Village to become one of the driving forces behind the growing singer/songwriter scene there. In the mid-1980s, Rod co-founded the Greenwich Village Folk Festival, a free annual gathering that always attracts some of the city's best-known and up-and-coming performers.Originally issued on LP in 1987, "White Buffalo" was reissued on CD overseas by Brambus Records, but has never been readily available in U.S. retail stores until now.In addition to "White Buffalo", Rod has released "No Commerical Traffic" (1983), "Highway to Nowhere" (1991), and "The Man on the Ledge" (1994).

Greenwich Village in the mid-'80s was an unparalleled meeting place for the contemporary generation of songwriters. Gadfly Records has had the good sense to reissue Rod MacDonald's 1985 album, White Buffalo. It was originally released in a slightly different form by Autogram in Germany in 1985, then in Canada ...
