$44.69 The debut album from the British girl group inevitably invites comparisons to older groups that came before them like Bananarama as well as The Shangri-La's, The Crystals, The Shirelles, The Ronettes and the like. But these gals are very much a part of the post-women's lib generation, not indebted to or needing men for their own happiness! They have more in common with The Ramones, who understood and appreciated their antededents and fully embrace their strengths while forging ahead with music for the 21st Century on their own terms. Produced by Andy Dragazis (Blue States) and Gaz Parton (The Go! Team), the album includes the singles "Dirty Mind" (re-recorded here), "Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me" and "Pull Shapes". This edition adds a bonus track, "Really That Bad".
Includes 1 bonus track. Taking the prefabricated elements of the 1960s girl-group concept to their post-modern extreme, Brighton, England's Pipettes revel in the choreographed bubblegum-and-bouffant chic of groups like the Ronettes and the Shangri-Las, but also maintain an electro-pop sheen that places them squarely in the new millennium. The group's 2006 debut, WE ARE THE PIPETTES, could easily be called a gimmick if not for the group's mastery of what is ultimately the key element of the girl-group aesthetic--gloriously catchy pop tunes. While songs like "Pull Shapes" and "Judy" lack the palpable emotionalism of the best of the original groups, they possess a nostalgic twinkle and a cheeky attitude that are almost impossible to dismiss. Just when you thought they didn't make 'em like that anymore, Brighton's Pipettes emerge with this debut album to prove you wrong. With hooks and looks borrowed from the golden era of Phil Spector, the Pipettes, it seems, are on an admirable mission to re-establish the concept of the girl group, and there are, undoubtedly, some true gems on We Are the Pipettes: the 2006 mid-summer single "Pull Shapes" being one. With its stop-start rhythms, sparkling near-disco strings, and a lyric celebrating the bliss of dancing your cares away ("I just wanna move/I don't care what the song's about"), it gives the listener a pretty good picture of what this record is all about. "Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me" and "Dirty Mind" are also very well-executed, upbeat girl group pop songs. But the era of girl groups, of course, was just as notorious for its highly melodramatic ballads. On "A Winter's Sky," the Pipettes come close to perfecting this art as well. It stands out from the majority of the songs by being seemingly irony-free and sincere, rather downtempo, and filled with the sweet vocal harmonies bound to melt even the iciest of hearts. Not all the tracks are equally great, of course. The theme song "We Are the Pipettes" ...

$17.69 This CD is a reformation of thought. It sums up what music should be about. Neither violence nor sexuality degrading our females. Rather singing about the beauty in them. Also sets the tone for celebration when at a dance club. Not promoting rated x scenes on the dance floor but rather creating a dance that EVEN YOUR MOMA CAN ROCK TOO. Songs like "keep the love strong" and "must be your love". Sends a signal of how a relationship should be in a couples life. "A mother's tears"is dedicated to mothers who have lost a son or a daughter from a tragedy. Also the "yes we can track". This track was inspired by the late Dr. Martin Luther king and also our newly elected president Barak Obama. Can't forget the track "Do a little dance" my hit single. This track was created in two formats. It's like two styles in one song. It brings a hip hop vibe in the begining then the hook takes you to a hot pop Vibe. Then you got the gospel track "How you want it". Depicts how you can be gospel, or a Christian and you still can keep it real. Reaching the young ...
