Madvillainy Madvillain
Madvillainy (2004) 4.3 stars Top Seller Definitive Album
CD $15.95 Buy It  Details

5 starsA Masterpiece In Todays Rap Community
Madlid's Jazzy Beats, MF Doom's Hilariously Absurd Lyrics, And Marijuana Join To Form Madvillain, A Famous Villian (At Least As The Samples Of 1940's Movies Say). The duo start with a bang on "Accordion". A lazy bassline runs over a short Accordion melody played over and over. The beat is wildly imaginative, as are the lyrics. It's possibly the best song on the album. "America's Most Blunted" is also a highlight, a collaboration between MF Doom and Quasimoto (Madlib's alias, a seriously blunted character who sounds like he swallowed some helium). The lyrics are the showcase on this one and there seriously "bugged out". (Also recommended is Quasimoto's album "The Unseen") Madlib's superb use of sampling only enhances the jazzy beats. He uses samples from 1940 B-Movies to enhance the atmosphere, and the tactic works great. Top 5 Songs: 1) Accordion 2) America's Most Blunted (F. Quasimoto) 3) Meat Grinder 4) Raid (F. Medaphoar) 5) Rainbows Even the songs that aren't on the list are great. Usually instrumentals and interludes just drag the flow of the album, not so with this album. Its highly recommended.

5 starsJeru's rhymes are tough and yet intelligent
Not only are his rhymes tough and intelligent, but the production, by DJ Premier of Gang Starr, is sparse and tough, and occasionally jazzy, and fits Jeru's verses perfectly. Top 5 Songs: 1) Aint The Devil Happy 2) Da Bichez 3) You Can't Stop The Prophet 4) D Original 5) Jungle Musik

4 starsOne Of Alternative Rap's Best Groups, Greatest Hits CD
A great album gathering all of the Pharcyde's good songs from it's first 2 albums, well mostly, it misses Soul Flower (Remix)(What the heck where they thinking). I have three qualms with this album. I already stated the first one, the second being to many intermissions. There are only three, but thats still 1/5 of the CD. The third is There Third CD "Plain Rap" is not included here. However, in the end the good outways the bad. Top 6 Songs: 1) Runnin 2) Otha Fish 3) Ya Mama 4) Oh S*** 5) Passing Me By 6) Drop

4 starsA few love ballads mixed with a few thug songs
Some say this album is too filled with commercialized songs (Livin It Up, Always On Time, Im Real, Etc.) and in truth it does have quite a few of these songs but there good even though there commercialized. And the thug songs are more calculated and much better than on any previous CD. Also, the song feat. 2Pac, "So Much Pain" is a definite highlight Top 5 Songs: So Much Pain - 5 Smokin & Ridin - 4.5 X - 4.5 Lost Little Gurl - 4.5 Always On Time - 4.5

4 starsNot quiet The best Wu Tang Clan solo project
This however is Method Mans best CD. It's just pure straight up hip hop, not a hint of commercialism on this CD. If you are a Wu Tang fan, you will know that Enter The Wu Tang and GZA's Liquid Swords are better CD's, along with Raekwons Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, but this is still one of the best hip hop album. However everybody's tastes are different. Highlights: Tical - 4.5 Bring Da Pain - 4.5 MR. Sandman - 4.5 Method Man (Remix)- 4.5

4 starsNot quite the best Wu solo effort, but close
This album isnt quite as eerie or disturbing as the other Wu solo albums or Enter the Wu Tang, it's more of an upbeat hardcore rap album filled with sum R&B beats. It's definetly a very unique Wu Tang solo project and deserves attention. Highlights (Not In Any Order): Iron Maiden - 4.5 Winter Warz - 4.5 Daytona 500 - 4.5 All That I Got Is You - 4.5

Unlike the first 8 mile CD, this has music only from when Eminem was a nobody, and thats the way this second album should be. It's different, and better, than the first one and thats whats great.
