Worth the wait? Well...after three complete listenings, I can honestly say it's a decent follow-up to "1984". I was hoping for something resembling VH "I" or "II" but it sounds closer to "Fair Warning" which is still OK. From what I've learned, VH went through old demos and outtakes trying to recreate the original VH sound. With that said, I think they've done a pretty fair job of it.
The 2012 Roth doesn't quite sound like the 80's version which can be expected and the absence of Michael Anthony's vocals are evident. Alex is Alex which is to say he hasn't missed a beat (pun intended) and Wolfie appears to fill Anthony's shoes adequately. I enjoyed listening to Eddie get back into it with his signature style and this disc will never be confused with anything from the Van Hagar era.
I guess my only disappointment would be that I was expecting my jaw to hit the floor (it didn't). Maybe over time I will come to appreciate the effort more, but for right now I give it a thumbs up with 3.5 stars. Submitted by a reviewer (Altoona, PA) 2/7/2012
