DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. First and foremost, the box contains nearly five wall-to-wall hours of great music. By including everything from early demos to Gregg Allman and Dickie Betts' solo material, DREAMS does a great job of tracing the group's musical evolution from hippie blues band to kings of Southern rock. And, while the unreleased studio version of "Statesboro Blues" included here isn't definitive, it's still mighty good-as are the set's other rarities. Start your Allman Brothers collection with THE FILLMORE CONCERTS; if that grabs you, DREAMS should also find a welcome place on your CD shelf.

Housed in a simple, dark-gray box embossed with the band's name and a limited-edition number, this minimal-yet-handsome set contains all of the Eagles' albums between 1972's EAGLES and 1980's LIVE, remastered and encased in perfect miniature reproductions of the original LP sleeves. Although there are no outtakes, alternate mixes, or B-sides to spoil the unity of the albums, collectors should note the inclusion of a ninth bonus disc, containing both tracks of the band's rare 1978 Christmas single. Taken as a whole, the box charts the Eagles' evolution, from the most accessible of the original country-rock groups (EAGLES, the classic concept album DESPERADO) to the kings of Los Angeles soft rock (ONE OF THESE NIGHTS, ON THE BORDER) to their late '70s pinnacle as one of the biggest bands in the world (their masterpiece, HOTEL CALIFORNIA, and THE LONG RUN). By presenting the albums as a whole, this easily supercedes the Eagles' previous compilations, which focused on the hit singles at the expense of equally impressive album tracks.

Who is Blue Ridge Grass? The truth is that we are middle-aged men (except for Jamie, that young whipper-snapper) with regular jobs in rural Appalachia who have played Blue Grass music all of our lives, just for the love of it. Ray and Greg first founded Blue Ridge Grass while in their teens. At that time Bluegrass Unlimited, upon reviewing the first (out of copy) recording project called them “a force to be reckoned with” primarily on account of their instrumental virtuosity. Hidden Driveways formed in the late 1990's in the wake of the break-up of Syrup USA. Sam Mallery had been playing bass and singing with Syrup USA since he and Seana Carmody of Swirlies formed the group in 1993. Syrup USA was founded on a shared love of shoegazer walls of noise, and an obsessive pursuit of pop. After years of touring and a successful debut album, Syrup USA called it quits in 1998. However, in his spare time Sam had formed Hidden Driveways as a side project and they started playing shows immediately.
