After eight releases over two consoles, the Armored Core series comes to planned conclusion with this release. Following the events that occurred in Armored Core 3, in which players saw the near extinction of the human race after a devastating war, Nexus begins as those who survived by fleeing to underground shelters begin to resurface after years of subterranean dwelling.
For fans of the series, the most noticeable new feature of Armored Core: Nexus may be that it comes on two discs. The first disc, titled "Evolution," features the actual game. The second disc, titled "Revolution," was designed to be a "best of" Armored Core. Aficionados can enjoy previous titles with updated graphics, as well as an assortment of unlockable secrets such as music, movies, and artwork from other games in the series. Also included with this installment is multiplayer support through either an iLink or LAN connection.
Unit customization features also benefit from a bit of an update in Armored Core: Nexus. With access to over 400 different parts, players will have the ability to create countless designs. Longtime fans of the series should find solace in the inclusion of weapons and parts from previous titles, allowing them to create replicate favorite designs from earlier adventures.
Armored Core: Nexus is set in a tumultuous time of uncertain rebirth. The Organization of Controlling Corporations (OCC) was initially founded to reconstruct society as humans moved back above ground, but it quickly lost its power as stability returned to the land. However the Narvis Company, one of the contributing corporations to the OCC, has realized the potential for power in controlling planetary resources, and has put in motion a plan that, if not derailed, could bring the return of war.
