Colosseum: Road to Freedom is an arena combat game set during the height of the ancient Roman empire, when grim warriors would fight to the death for the amusement of thousands of fickle spectators. Players take the role of Narcissus, a self-assured gladiator who appears far less self-absorbed than his mythological antecedent, and who has made it his life's quest to avenge the destruction of the small village where he lived as a child. The story begins as Narcissus trains in the ways of the warrior, learning new skills as he collects better weapons and more protective armor pieces. By the time he encounters Empereor Commodus, the master of the coliseum, Narcissus is ready to prove his mettle on the battlefield. Match types include duels, team battles, beast fights, and last-man-standing bouts. Two-player combat is supported in most modes of play.

You want Gladiator, you got it! If you loved the movie Gladiator, then this is the game for you. This game allows for a very full range of character control, which is very appealing if you have waited for a fighting game with more in depth strategy and fighting options. Examples of this involve the use of a parry, or deflection, of your opponents attack as well as a dodge option (to name a few). These options may make the fighting more difficult, but they ultimately enrich the replayability in my opinion depending on if you want to improve your gladiator's performance.
Your character can utilize four different fighting styles, each having their own pros and cons. On top of that there are several types of events to participate in and an abundance of weapons and armor that you may use to make your gladiator look just like he jumped off the set of Gladiator onto your PS2. I would recommend this to anyone interested in the Roman era and gladitorial matches in particular. This game feels like your are in an arena fighting for your life.
