To find a new spouse, Sweetland and his housekeeper, Minta (Lillian Hall-Davis), make a list of the women who live nearby, assuming that any one of them would kill to be his bride. But farmer Sweetland is in for a big surprise--and his ego is in for a major bruising--until the lovelorn Sweetland can acknowledge that he is secretly admired by his housekeeper. Gordon Harker gives an amusing performance as the old farmhand in this faithful adaptation of a play by Eden Phillpotts. A silent comedy by Hitchcock showcasing fluid camera movements and elaborate emotional visuals, THE FARMER'S WIFE is filmed like a thriller, utilizing photography that suggests a German influence on Hitchcock. This adaptation of a successful play by Eden Phillpotts follows a widower who lives on a farm with his housekeeper and is combing the countryside in search of a wife, blind to the attachment his housekeeper has developed for him. Theatrical release: March 1928.

After filming was completed, Hitchcock invited the cast and crew to celebrate at a West End restaurant. As a prank Hitchcock hired actors as waiters with instructions to be rude and insulting.

NORTH BY NORTHWEST is a suspense thriller that finds Cary Grant in the role of Roger Thornhill, a Manhattan advertising executive mistaken for a spy. Considered by many to be the prototypical pure action movie (creating the template for later James Bond and Indiana Jones films), the film is a cross-country roller-coaster ride with Alfred Hitchcock at the helm. The film is duly famous for several classic and indelible scenes, including the desert biplane encounter and the Mt. Rushmore climax. The original title was THE MAN IN LINCOLN'S NOSE, which was replaced by a reference to a line from William Shakespeare's HAMLET (in which Hamlet says, "I am but mad north-north-west."). The magical combination of Hitchcock and the debonair Grant--who made four wonderful films together--makes NORTH BY NORTHWEST a suspense-filled standout.

Meg Ryan stars in this fictionalized account of real-life boxing manager Jackie Kallen, the first female to ever make a name for herself in the sport. As the film begins she's just an assistant to the owner of a sleazy sporting arena, but her antagonism toward a mafia-affiliated boxing bigwig (Tony Shalhoub) and her hunch about the innate boxing talent of a young street thug named Luther (Omar Epps) lead her to take up managing.
