Pam Grier, Sid Haig, Antonio Fargas, Harry Holcombe, Peter Brown, Katheryn Loder - Dir:Jack Hill FOXY BROWN is Pam Grier's landmark Blaxploitation film, in which she creates the iconic character imitated in films by directors from Spike Lee ... Full Descriptionto Quentin Tarantino.
Grier plays Foxy, a toughened woman living in a drug-plagued Los Angeles ghetto who goes on a one-woman mission of vengeance after her undercover cop boyfriend (Terry Carter) is shot down in the street. The badass lass goes undercover herself, as a call girl for the evil mistress of the drug cartel (Kathryn Loder), and with the help of a neighborhood vigilante committee, wreaks some hell on the bad guys. Highlights include a lesbian bar brawl and Foxy's sexual belittling of an old white judge. Co-stars include Antonio Fargas, Sid Haig, and Sally-Ann Stroud. Don't miss the crazily colored opening credits, which feature Grier boogying down in all sorts of super-sexy outfits to the Willie Hutch title track (Hutch also composed the groovy funk score). This was directed by cult icon Jack Hill, who also scored with Grier in the previous year's COFFY.
Chock full of sex, nudity and rampant violence, FOXY BROWN is visceral in a way that today's movies cannot be. Its treatment of graphic subjects is purposely shocking, to undermine studio conventions of the time, making Foxy's revenge especially exciting to watch.Theatrical release: May 4, 1974

Foxy Brown film
$10.49 Pam Grier rocketed to stardom as the queen of blaxploitation films with this big cult hit. Director Jack Hill, who had launched her film career two years earlier with THE BIG DOLL HOUSE, here casts Grier as a hardworking nurse out to avenge her smack-addicted 11-year-old sister by waging a one-woman war on Los Angeles drug dealers. Better believe she can do it, too. After her cop friend Carter (William Elliott) is beaten up for not being crooked, Foxy decides to go undercover as a high-class Jamaican prostitute for King George (Robert Doqui), a super mack-daddy pimp with big-time heroin connections. There's a really memorable scene at a party, where Coffy battles King George's other prostitutes in a spectacular cat fight, and of course, lots of other slam-bang action is in the works as Coffy shoots, slashes and seduces her way to the top of the drug ring. Through it all, Grier keeps her character ...

$8.89 SUPERFLY, along with COFFY and SHAFT, completes Blaxploitations's best known
triumvirate. One of the highest-grossing pictures of 1972, SUPERFLY became an instant classic, and established director Gordon Parks firmly in Warner Brothers' sights to make THREE THE HARD WAY in 1974. Parks was one of the first African American directors to get financing from a major Hollywood studio to make the 1969 film THE LEARNING TREE.
Super Fly is a cocaine dealer who begins to realize that his life will soon end with either prison or his death. He decides to build an escape from the life by making his biggest deal yet, converting the coke to cash and running off to start a new life. The problem is that the Mob does not have a retirement plan and will give him a choice of staying and selling for them or dying if they find out his intentions. With a terrific score by Curtis Mayfield ...

$9.39 Martial arts superstar Jet Li reteams with French writer-director Luc Besson (KISS OF THE DRAGON) in this psychological action film shot in Glasgow, Scotland. Li stars as Danny, a human attack dog for a powerful mobster he calls Uncle Bart (Bob Hoskins, looking resplendent in white suit after white suit). When Bart and his men go out on their collection runs, they bring Danny, who has been trained since he was a child to fight to kill. When Bart takes Danny's collar off and commands, "Get 'im," Danny goes to work, an unstoppable machine, using the only weapon he knows: his body. But when a turf war ends up in bloody carnage, Danny escapes and is taken in by a kind family consisting of blind piano tuner Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his teenage stepdaughter, Victoria (Kerry Condon). They teach Danny how to be a real person, to be able to act civilly in society. lame not up to much. i am a big pam grier fan & admirer but this film was way below my expectations. poor story and useless acting (pam tries her best with an inferior script). the whole thing seems disjointed. i can't see why it got such a cult reputation? left me cold. Foxy for real As a huge fan of Pam Grier, it breaks my heart to say that "Foxy Brown" is appalling. The movie features the strong, independent, intelligent protagonist getting raped and dragged by the villains. Although she regains control over the situation, it is done at a huge cost. The movie lacks emotion and the character Foxy is nothing but a sex object in the entire movie. The quality of the film is pretty good and the fight scenes are okay. The best part is when she meets up with the "brothers" from the Panther movement, and they all come together to seek justice. If you are a Pam Grier fan, buy the dvd for your collection, but it is not the best work i have seen. Excellent soundtrack!!!
