These veteran frontiersmen hope to open a small business and settle into a quiet life. To make matters worse, the entire village is victimized by a gang of infamous outlaws. Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan may be the only formidable force around to confront them head-on. "Tombstone" was written by "Glory" screenwriter Kevin Jarre, who was originally slated to direct. George Pan Cosmatos ("Rambo: First Blood, Part II") replaced him.
Kevin Costner was still working on his version of the Wyatt Earp story for Warner Bros. (directed by Lawrence Kasdan) when "Tombstone" was released December 25, 1993.
Jarre told reporters that Costner's film was initially slated to "crush my picture." Jarre was afraid his picture wouldn't get made but a William Morris agent got Russell to star in the film (even if Russell was a client of the Creative Artists Agency); after that, the rest of the cast quckly fell into place.
Budget estimate $25 million.
Filmed in location in Tucson, Arizona, in Technicolor and Panavision.
Rated MPAA R, running time 127 minutes.
Rated BBFC 15 by the British Board of Film Classification. Tombstone Reviews: "...TOMBSTONE is replete with traditional Western pleasures: lusciously photographed sunsets, rugged landscapes, consistently witty dialogue...and a gallery of finely-realised heroes and villains..."
-- Tom Tunney, Sight and Sound "...Russell's clear, steady portrayal of Wyatt Earp gives the film a core of emotional integrity..."
-- Stephen Holden, New York Times "...The leanest, meanest Earp movie yet....Sprawling, chaotic [climax]..."
-- Michael Sauter, Entertainment Weekly Tombstone Movie Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) Magnificent The casting director hit the "nail on the head" when she cast Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer and Dana Delaney in this epic Wyatt Earp western. If the real characters were anything like this portrayal, beam me over to this time period Scotty ! A must have for your DVD library. Mandatory Western! If you absolutely love westerns this is the film you must see! Russel and Kilmer are explosive and the story lines are riveting. Maybe I need to get a life because I watch this film in its entirety everytime it is featured on cable. I am totally captivated by this film and it definetly adds depth to the genre. Haha. I've seen it a thousand times My friend showed me this movie about a year ago and I was fascinated by it! I had to find it. It took me a while to buy it on DVD and I finally bought it this past January. I've watched 52 times since! I have internet biographies on the real people in the film, mainly Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo. Hence my e-mail address...you get the picture. This is an ensemble movie, the only one I've ever seen that has kept me on the edge of my seat, glued to the tube. I can now also quote much of the book of Revelations in Spanish. I also am taking a Latin course, even though I already now what they are saying in the Latin Duel scene. This is the best movie. Show it to your pre-teens even if its rated R. The historical representation of this film is almost dead accurate and they'll want to learn more. Get 'em into history. No movie comes close. $8.45 In Tim Burton's stylish, creepy retelling of the classic Washington Irving story, SLEEPY HOLLOW, Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is a squeamish, bookish 18th century New York City investigator sent to a small town in lower Westchester county to look into three mysterious decapitations. When the always rational Crane arrives at the little Dutch village, he finds that most of the townsfolk believe the culprit to be the Headless Horseman, the ghost of a monstrous Hessian soldier (Christopher Walken), who seems to be mysteriously tied in to one of the town's most prominent families. Burton's natural instincts for campy humor, combined with the hauntingly gorgeous technical work (Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography and Danny Elfman's score included), collide to create a work of exhilarating entertainment and poetic storytelling. Miranda Richardson, Casper Van Dien and Christina Ricci help make up an ensemble cast that, ...

$7.89 In M. Night Shyamalan's THE SIXTH SENSE, Bruce Willis plays Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a successful Philadelphia child psychologist who is haunted by the sudden reappearance and suicide of a former patient. Months later Dr. Crowe encounters Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), a troubled, withdrawn young boy who bears a striking similarity to his earlier patient. Dr. Crowe is compelled to help Cole, not only for the boy's sake, but for his own redemption. As Dr. Crowe struggles to determine what torments Cole, he must also come to terms with his increasingly distant relationship to his wife (Olivia Williams). Meanwhile, Cole is unable to describe the horrible things he sees even to his worried mother (Toni Collette). The scene where Cole finally tells Dr. Crowe about his supernatural secret is one of the 1990s most quoted and well-known cinematic moments.
A gripping ghost story with a stunning finale, THE SIXTH SENSE became a surprise blockbuster shortly after its release. The film features Oscar-nominated performances by the startlingly intense Osment and the fiercely maternal Collette, as well as a subtle, subdued turn by Willis. Shyamalan directs his intriguing script with almost clinical precision, ...

$10.15 The title character leads viewers through an accidental travelogue of American social history from the early 1960s through the present in this revisionist fable. Vietnam, desegregation, Watergate, and more are presented from the perspective of Tom Hanks's loveably slow-witted Forrest Gump as he finds himself embroiled in situations he can't quite comprehend. Hanks leads an excellent cast, featuring Robin Wright Penn as Jenny, Forrest's lifelong love; Gary Sinise as the irascible Lt. Dan, his Vietnam superior; Mykelti Williamson as Bubba, a shrimp-loving soldier; and Sally Fields as his devoted mother. Robert Zemeckis's emotional, heartwarming film garnered 13 Academy Award nominations and six wins, including Best Picture, Director, Actor--Tom Hanks, and Adapted Screenplay.
Tom Hanks gives an astonishing performance as Forrest Gump in this acclaimed film from director Robert Zemeckis that rocketed to box-office history and touched the hearts of filmgoers like no other movie. Through three turbulent decades, Forrest rides a tide of events that whisks him from physical disability to football stardom, from ...
